Chapter 50: Outside

I can feel my cheeks burn. “What? N-no we don’t.” I wrack my brain trying to think of anything I’ve ever said –or done– that could be interpreted as flirting with Daniel. Did I send him mixed signals? Did I mean to send them? Do I want– what do I want?

“You don’t,” she agrees. “He does. He’s been hitting on you since we met.”

“What? No way. I’d have noticed.”

She laughs. “For someone with so much Perception, you are oblivious, Harper.”

Daniel laughs at that one. I glare at him and he holds up his hands in surrender. “In her defense, you really are.”

“I am not!” I insist. I feel an urge to stomp my foot, but know that would not help my case at all.

Petra crosses her arms over her chest and raises an eyebrow at me, a smirk on her face. She taps her foot expectedly, but I don’t seem to have the reaction she’s looking for. Finally, she laughs and says, “Have you even noticed that we’re on top of Jyger-Te and not inside it anymore?”
