Chapter 54

Abel

"Do you want to put the multi-colored lights on it, or keep with one theme?" Kara questions. "I love all the different colors that are used at Christmas, but if you want uniform. We can have uniform."

"No, we can do multi. I like multi too. All those people who always talk about how perfect their tree looks because it's beige with white lights? I fuckin' hate that. When I was little, Dad and I had trees and ornaments that we got from anywhere and everywhere. I loved it though, nothing about it was perfect. The tree sat a little sideways, the strands of lights always had one that was out. We learned to find the beauty in the imperfections, and I feel like I've carried that around with me for most of my life."

Kara tilts her head to the side. "Beauty in the imperfections. God Abel, you don't know how amazing you are. I can't believe no one scooped you up before now."

I reach out and palm her cheek. "I was waiting on you."
