Chapter 55

Kara

I spent a day last weekend with my family celebrating Christmas, and now I'm heading to Boone's to celebrate it with Abel's family. Last I heard, even his mom is coming, which I know means a lot to him. I didn't have a chance to get a lot of gifts, and the one I have for Abel isn't one I can share in front of others. After our time in front of the Christmas tree the day we put it up, I got an idea. I can't wait to put it into motion, but for now we need to spend time with family.

I pull into the driveway, watching as Abel comes out of the backdoor. "Hey! Do you need help bringing stuff in?"

"Yeah, if you don't mind." My breath hangs in the air, white puffs of smoke. "Brought a chocolate fudge cake, and I don't trust myself carrying it with how slick it is."

"Chocolate fudge cake? You really do love me, don't you? That's my favorite."

"You never told me, but every time I sell it at the truck, you order it. My box of gifts is small."
