Episode 19(Uncertainty)

BUHIGH CLINIC

"Dr. Eva runs a general check-up on Efe."

Dr. EVA

You are improving, you should be able to return to your cell by morning.

(Turns to leave.)

EFE

(Grabs her by the wrist)

Please don't send me out there.

"The guard stationed in the room approaches Efe and Dr Eva."

GUARD

Let go of her hand.

(Attempts to hit Efe.)

Dr. EVA

(Stops the guard)

Why should I do that when you are fit to be out there?

EFE

Because the guy I fought with will come for me again and I need to be strong enough to defend myself.

Dr. EVA

Didn't you hear any of what I said?

He has been sent to the dark room where he will be isolated from everyone.

You are safe!

"Efe relaxes on the bed."

"Funke smiles at Teni."

FUNKE

Good morning!

TENI

Good morning, you seem happy today.

FUNKE

Why wouldn't I be? It's Monday.

TENI

Funke!

What is this about?

FUNKE

Nothing, I'm just happy.

Can't I wake up on the right side of the bed?

TENI

(Pulls out some of her books from her locker.)

Of course, you can.

FUNKE

Exactly so quit being a pessimist.

TENI

Hmm, you know that isn't it?

I know you and how crazy it can be inside that head of yours there is no way that smile on your face is about just waking up on the right side of the bed.

(Closes her locker.)

FUNKE

Fine!

You got me.

TENI

Ehen, I knew it so tell me, what is this about?

FUNKE

I have found a way to prove the broken beads belong to Sophia.

TENI

(Stops and turns to Funke)

Funke, we've talked about this.

FUNKE

Look, just hear me out.

TENI

I thought we finally agreed to let this go.

FUNKE

Hear me out, Teni.

TENI

(Sighs and folds her arms across each other.)

Fine, you have my attention.

FUNKE

I approached some of Sophia's girls, you know those junior students that she carries around to do her small, small chores. And it turns out that she complained to them about a missing bead just less than a day after the Victoria incident happened. She even made them look around the whole school for it.

TENI

Wow!

Meaning she had something to do with what might have happened to Victoria that day.

"They both enter into their classroom."

FUNKE

Exactly!

Now we have proof.

TENI

Relax, Funke!

I just want to ask one question.

How do you intend to connect the broken beads to the incident?

"Funke seats opposite Teni."

FUNKE

What is there to connect?

Have you forgotten we found blood on the beads?

TENI

That could be anyone's blood, Funke.

FUNKE

Or it could be Victoria's blood.

Don't you realize this is our chance to expose Sophia and her group?

All we have to do is to present our findings to the school authorities.

TENI

Funke, we can't do that yet.

FUNKE

Why?

TENI

Because we have to be certain that we have enough proof to implicate Sophia because if we don't, and she finds a way to prove her innocence, she and her group will come for us. They will make our remaining days at Winner Academy worse than hell!

FUNKE

So, what do you suggest we do?

TENI

Hmm, I have a plan, don't worry.

Just tell one of Sophia's girls to meet us at the basketball dressing room during break.

FUNKE

Hmm, alright.

"Faith turns to Bema as they approach the classroom."

FAITH

All you have to do is talk to her.

BEMA

Can you just let this go?

I have nothing to say to her.

"Isio walks in."

ISIO

Really?

What the hell is your problem?

BEMA

(Turns to Isio)

Now you are taking her side.

ISIO

This is not about taking anybody's side it's about you being an ass to our friend.

It's Kome we are talking about, Bema. Do you know the shame she felt while walking into the school compound this morning?

She needs us now more than ever.

BEMA

You don't get...

ISIO

(Interrupts Bema)

Shut up and let me finish!

Do you know what it's like for all eyes in school to be fixed out knowing fully well they are talking about you and judging your family?

BEMA

You don't get it!

I'm hurt!

ISIO

Why? Because you told her how you felt, and she hasn't returned the feelings?

BEMA

It's more than that, Isio.

ISIO

Then what is this about?

Because I don't get you anymore. None of us do!

BEMA

Like I said, you wouldn't understand.

ISIO

Then make us understand.

Or don't you see how your actions are affecting all of us?

The Bema I know would care and find a way to fix this.

BEMA

(Chuckles)

You think this is my fault?

ISIO

Whose fault do you think it is?

You were the one who started acting up.

BEMA

Then maybe you should ask innocent Kome!

Because this isn't my fault!

ISIO

(Sighs)

You know what?

I'm done!

When you are ready be mature and talk about this, you know where to find us but for now, stay away from Kome she doesn't need bad energy right now.

(Walks into the class)

BEMA

Of course, I will.

I have nothing to say to her anyway.

(Notice Faith is giving him the pity gaze.)

What is it?

Say it, you think I'm an idiot and all of this is my fault.

FAITH

Of course, Kome has some contribution to this but yes, this is your fault as much as it is hers.

You don't even realize what this is turning you into.

(Shakes her head and walks into the classroom.)

EXT. ZINO'S WAREHOUSE.

"Ovie parks his car and comes out. Gazes at Zara who is armed with a riffle around her neck."

OVIE

What is going on?

Where is Zino?

ZARA

(Grabs Ovie by the left arm)

Come with me.

OVIE

Where is this place?

"Zara opens the entrance door to the warehouse with an eye scanner."

ZARA

Zino, we explain everything to you.

(They both step into an elevator.)

OVIE

Are we in an elevator?

ZARA

Yes.

OVIE

But this is not an upstairs.

ZARA

It's an underground warehouse.

(The door opens, and they both step out.)

OVIE

(Sights Zino)

Why did you ask me to meet you here?

ZINO

(Breaths heavy)

This is an underground warehouse I built in case we need protection from the company.

OVIE

Why are you showing me this?

And why are you guys armed? What the hell is going on?

ZARA

We were attacked in church yesterday.

OVIE

What?

By whom?

ZINO

An associate of the company it turns out that they have something to do with what happened to Efe.

"Gemma walks into the scene."

GEMMA

Good morning, seniors.

FUNKE

Good morning, Gemma.

TENI

Gemma, I believe you were on the side of justice when you decided to tell on Sophia.

GEMMA

Yes, ma.

FUNKE

And you want her gone and expelled?

GEMMA

(Raises her head and turns to Funke)

Is that possible?

TENI

More than possible if you play your role in this.

GEMMA

What do I have to do?

TENI

(Goes closer to Gemma)

On a general scale of 1-10, how close are you to Sophia?

GEMMA

Emm, I would say seven.

TENI

I'm hoping that is close enough to her hairbrush or comb.

GEMMA

Amanda is the one who helps Sophia with that.

She divided the chores among us.

Mine is to run errands for her.

FUNKE

Damn it!

TENI

What?

FUNKE

Amanda is the one girl who is loyal to Sophia.

I couldn't even approach her out of fear that she might tell Sophia everything.

GEMMA

If getting the brush for you would get her expelled, then I am willing to try.

I am tired of being bullied and forced to do things I don't want to do.

FUNKE

Good, I love that spirit.

You can go!

Get it as fast as you can.

GEMMA

Can I ask what you need it for?

FUNKE

No, you can't.

The less you know, the better for you.

GEMMA

Alright, ma.

(Turns and walks out of the room.)

"Kome's eyes meet with that of Bema as they walk out of the classroom, Bema turns to leave."

KOME

Bema!

BEMA

(Stops)

What is it Kome?

KOME

Really?

(Stands in front of Bema)

That's what you have to say to me.

BEMA

What do you want me to say to you?

KOME

(Breaths heavy)

Why have you been avoiding me?

BEMA

I haven't been avoiding you.

I have just been busy.

(Avoids eye contact with her)

KOME

You have been busy?

BEMA

Yeap!

I'm not as jobless as you think I am.

KOME

So, what you were busy with was more important than coming to see me?

BEMA

Why do you always think the world revolves around you?

Or do you think I don't have a life outside my friendship with you?

KOME

First of all, I do not think the world revolves around me!

Secondly, what the hell has gotten into you?

Why are you being so mine?

BEMA

Have a good day, Kome.

(Turns to leave.)

KOME

(Grabs him by the arm)

You are not going anywhere till you tell me what this is all about.

We are best friends, Bema.

BEMA

You are more than that to me

I know you knew this long before I told you how I...

KOME

How you what?

Felt about me?

Come on Bema, you know we can never be together in that way.

BEMA

(Chuckles)

And why is that? I'm not good enough?

KOME

Bema!

Because you are my friend, and I love you like a brother.

BEMA

I'm not your brother, Kome and you knew I liked you sometimes you even took advantage of it.

KOME

I don't get you, Bema.

BEMA

Why him?

KOME

Who?

BEMA

You know what I'm talking about.

KOME

(Whispers)

Because I like him.

I know it looks wrong but...

BEMA

(Interrupts Kome.)

But he is only using you.

What you have with him is superficial and unrealistic.

It can never be!

KOME

How would you know?

BEMA

Because I am a guy too.

He is way older and trust me you do not fit into his plans.

You are nothing but a passerby to him meant to used and dumped.

"Kome slaps Bema."

KOME

You have no right to judge him or anyone.

You are not God!

You can dictate my life or who should be in it!

BEMA

(Chuckles)

Do as you please but do me one favor.

Tell others what you have going on with him or I will.

KOME

Bema, please. You can't do this to me.

BEMA

No, this is not on me!

They are our friends, and they deserve to know. I will not cover for you anymore, especially for something we both know is wrong!

(Bema walks out of the scene.)

INT. ZINO'S WAREHOUSE.

"Ovie turns to Zino."

OVIE

Efe worked for the company?

Don't tell me you believe everything you were told.

ZINO

I don't know what to believe anymore.

(Assemble the guns in front of her)

There is no way they would have legally known Efe was related to me.

OVIE

It's the New Gate we are talking about. To the outside world, they might be a big successful pharmaceutical company, but we know what they are capable of. It's possible they were able to get those sealed documents that prove Efe is related to you.

ZARA

(Turns to Zino)

Your brother might have a point.

OVIE

So, what do we do?

ZINO

I am going after everyone who is involved in this, and I will get Efe out of that place but first, you would have to do something for me.

OVIE

What is that?

ZINO

Move Mama and Kome here.

Also, Kome has to stop going to school for now.

I have to make sure you are all safe before I go after them.

OVIE

(Chuckles)

You know we will need some kind of story to convince them to come here.

Especially Kome there is no way she will quit Winner Academy just because we tell her she has to do so. She's getting wiser these days.

ZINO

True, that is why we are going to tell them everything tonight.

INT. HOSPITAL.

"Uche paces around the room."

ELLA

Hey, she will be fine.

Come and sitdown!

UCHE

I hope so.

(Sits down and rubs his palm across his face.)

This is my fault.

I never should have left the house.

ELLA

Calm down, Uche it's not your fault.

Your stepfather did this to her.

UCHE

But maybe none of this would have happened if I didn't leave in the first place.

ELLA

Yes, maybe. But there is no certainty.

He did this to her, not you!

UCHE

(Takes a deep breath)

What if something happens to her?

ELLA

Nothing will happen to her. We have to have some faith.

UCHE

Hmm, I pray so.

"The doctor walks into the scene."

UCHE

(Gets up at the sight of the doctor.)

Doctor, how is she?

DOCTOR

Your mother is fine.

ELLA

(Sigh in relief)

Thank God.

UCHE

And the baby?

ELLA

(Turns to Uche)

Baby?

DOCTOR

The baby is fine.

UCHE

Can we see her?

DOCTOR

Sure, although she is resting now.

UCHE

I just want to see her.

DOCTOR

Alright, come with me.

INT. BUHIGH PRISON.

"Dante paces around the cell."

JUDE

What are you doing?

DANTE

I'm worried about Efe.

JUDE

He will be fine.

He just needs some time to heal from his wound.

DANTE

I know but don't you find it weird that we haven't heard anything about him even the guards won't tell us anything.

"One of the guards walks into the scene with Efe beside him."

GUARD

(Uncuff Efe and opens the cell door.)

I don't know how you did but are lucky son.

But if you want my advice, watch your back.

(Walks away as the cell door closes.)

MOHAMMED

(Embraces Efe)

Yes, you did it!

Thank you, Allah.

(Looks up in excitement.)

DANTE

How are you feeling?

EFE

Never been better.

(Sits on his bed.)

JUDE

(Turns to Efe.)

How did you do it?

There is no logical explanation for what happened at the arena.

Was it Vudu?

EFE

(Chuckles)

Nor be only Vudu.

MOHAMMED

It was Allah obviously.

EFE

I wish it was but sadly it wasn't.

(Turns to Jude)

Neither did it have anything to do with Vudu.

DANTE

Then what did you do?

EFE

Let's just say I visited Julius.

DANTE

Julius?

The rat?

EFE

Yeah.

MOHAMMED

Why?

What does he have to do with this?

"Efe smiles."

FLASH BACK.

EXT. BUHIGH PRISON.

"Efe approaches Julius and his boys."

DAN

(Stops Efe)

Where do you think you are going?

EFE

I want to talk to your boss.

DAN

What do you want from my boss?

EFE

That's between me and him.

DAN

Get out of here!

"Julius walks in."

JULIUS

What do you want boy?

EFE

Your services.

I need information on Big Shark.

JULIUS

(Chuckles)

What makes you think I would give you access to that?

EFE

Because I will be helping you take down your biggest rival.

JULIUS

Big Shark is my direct superior even if you pay me a million dollars, I won't give you information on him.

EFE

(Goes closer to Julius)

Look, I have seen how things work here.

And I know you can't stand the system here.

You want a closer bond with the boss, but Big Shark keeps getting in your way.

JULIUS

(Breaths heavy)

Maybe you are right, but it still doesn't mean I will give you what you want. I may want more than I already have but not at the expense of getting into Big shark black book.

EFE

What if there is a way you can give me what I want without implicating yourself?

JULIUS

(Looks at Efe)

I'm listening...

EFE

All I need is access to a phone, the internet, and a link to the prison case files.

I will get the information I want myself.

JULIUS

How do I trust you wouldn't sell me out to Big Shark?

Who knows if this is a trap?

EFE

I guess you just have to trust me or lose the only opportunity you have to get rid of the one standing between you and the power you want.

JULIUS

Hmm, what do you intend to do with the information?

How will it help you take down Big Shark?

EFE

That is my problem to worry about.

Do we have a deal or not?

JULIUS

Hmm, fine we do.

___________________________________

INT. CELL

"Dante turns to Efe."

DANTE

Wow.

JUDE

Did you get the information you needed?

EFE

Yes, I did.

It turns out that Big Shark was happily married to the daughter of a well-known millionaire. But her father never approved of him because he thought he was way out of their league, and he was only after his daughter's money.

So unfortunately, Big Shark's wife was raped and killed while he was on a night shift at his place of work. When his father-in-law found out, he blamed him for what happened to his daughter. Out of Rage and guilt, Big Shark decided to take revenge, he found the criminal and killed him unfortunately for him, he was caught and sent to jail.

MOHAMMED

Wow, that's a sad story.

DANTE

So how did this information help you bring the almighty Big Shark to his feet?

EFE

Have you heard of the saying that the more powerful man thinks he is, the more insecure and softer he is? All you have to do is find out what his weaknesses are and trigger them.

That of Big Shark was how his wife died. All I did was step into the Arena and mirror back his guilt and shame to him.

JUDE

You played with his emotions against him?

EFE

Exactly!

Instead of playing the game, I played the man.

(Smiles at them.)

JUDE

Damn it, you are a f genius.

MOHAMMED

I agree with that.

Wow, does it work on everyone?

EFE

Yes, as long as you press the right button.

DANTE

As impressed as I am, am afraid your approach was only counterproductive.

EFE

How?

I escaped the fight.

DANTE

Yes, but you didn't kill Big Shark.

EFE

But the rules say a prisoner is immune and free from a rematch if the fight is interrupted by the guards.

MOHAMMED

Exactly.

DANTE

Yes, you have immunity.

But you failed to kill Big Shark.

You did something worse.

You humiliated him! And the big shark I know, won't let it go.

JUDE

Dante is right.

And that is if one of his followers or boys does not get to you before Big Shark does.

DANTE

(Gazes at Efe)

In other words, you are as good as dead once those cell doors open.
