Chapter 25 Erza (Rewrite)

Erza Scarlet—the name given to her by the boy she considered closest to family, whom she lost at the end of the revolution she had participated in. She still remembered how Jellal had suddenly changed at the end, torturing her and inflicting even more trauma on her than she had already endured.

His last words to her were a chilling warning: to never return in search of the rest of her family. If she did, he would kill them all.

So, she ran. She ran without looking back until her legs gave out. When she finally opened her eyes, she found herself in a hospital, surrounded by kind people. They took care of her and even supported her when she shared her plans to join the Fairy Tail guild. She had decided to go there because of Rob, a Fairy Tail mage (not the ROB), who had told her about it.

After several days of travel, she finally reached the guild, where she was warmly welcomed by Makarov. He not only accepted her as a member but also introduced her to her first friend—Gray. Though they often fought when they met, he eventually became a good friend.

Through Gray, she also met Ultear, who was friendly and introduced her to Cana, another girl of the same age group. Cana frequently trained with her father, Gildarts, and seeing their training sessions, Erza asked if she could train as well. Gildarts agreed but having no experience with weapons, could only teach her strengthening techniques to build her energy and stamina.

For the past few weeks, she had been training hard to better herself. And today was the day of her first quest. She now stood before Makarov, awaiting her assignment.

"Are you ready, my dear?" he asked with a sloppy grin.

"Yes, I will complete my quest efficiently." Erza replied with a serious expression.

"Well, there's a tradition in Fairy Tail for first-time quests. A new member is always accompanied by a senior member, and for you, I've chosen Karna. He was the second child to join the guild after Laxus.

Don't underestimate him, alright? Officially, he's a B-class wizard, but unofficially, even at his young age, he can take on average A-class wizards with ease. Learn as much as you can from him."

"Yes, Master. I will." Erza replied with a serious expression.

"Alright then, young lady. Get to it. Your quest details will be given to you by Porlyusica, and Karna will be there as well."

As Erza began to leave, her friends sent her off.

"Do your best, Erza!" Ultear cheered.

"Make sure not to fail," Gray said in his usual tsundere manner.

"Don't worry, Erza. Karna will take care of you, so just do your best." Cana said while giving her a reassuring pat on the shoulder.

With a nod, Erza started walking toward the forest where Porlyusica's house was located.

Once she was gone, the other kids went their separate ways, but Makarov remained, looking on with a calm expression.

"Ur, are you here?" He called out softly knowing she was nearby.

"Yep, Master."

"You know what to do, right?"

"Make sure no idiots cause problems. Don't worry, Master. Karna is strong—even I would struggle to fight him face-to-face in my current condition. But I'll keep an eye on things from a distance."

"Mmm. Take care of yourself as well."

"Okay, Master."

With that, she created ice creatures to spy from afar.

Erza's POV

Erza neared Porlyusica's house, where she was supposed to receive her first quest. While walking, she felt nervous about meeting Karna, who seemed to be important to many people in the guild.

Gray seemed to consider him stronger than himself. Ultear saw him as an older brother. Cana had hinted at an even stronger bond with him.

She hoped nothing would go wrong during the quest.

Suddenly, her instincts flared, and she jumped to the right—just in time. An arrow flew past where she had just been. Before she could catch her breath, more arrows came at her. She kept dodging and deflecting as many as she could until, suddenly, the barrage stopped.

A voice spoke.

"Good work."

She turned sharply and saw a boy, slightly taller than her, with black hair, golden piercing eyes, and a bow slung across his back—yet no quiver.

He continued speaking.

"You're mostly a knight-type fighter with telekinesis. The way you dodged and deflected my arrows suggests you can handle physical fighters up to C-class. However, your lack of experience against wizards makes it harder to assess your full potential."

Erza was shocked. He had deduced all that just from watching her for a few moments.

"What if I wasn't skilled enough?" she asked.

"The arrows were blunted. And I know a bit of healing magic." He replied.

"What is my quest?"

"For now, you'll be gathering herbs from the forest using this list." Karna said as he handed her a piece of paper.

"Alright."

Unlike the last two times, this first quest ended without any problems. After completing the task, Karna took Erza back to Porlyusica's house, where Cana and Ultear were waiting.

Once there, Porlyusica checked Erza's eyes and treated her, after which the girls all decided to go out and enjoy themselves.

After they left, only Porlyusica and Karna remained.

"How have you been doing, kid?"

"I'm fine, Granny. No problems." Karna replied with a soft smile.

"Hmm. Make sure to take care of yourself, okay?" She grumbled out.

"Okay, Grandma." He smiled.

Suddenly, Ur entered, and the atmosphere shifted. Their expressions became serious.

"How many did you see, kid?" Ur asked.

"Two." Karna replied.

"My ice creatures also detected only two. We can confirm they're from the same organization."

"Must be those council bastards," Porlyosika grumbled.

"You need to be careful, kid. They're likely targeting you." Ur warned.

Karna's golden eyes narrowed.

"If they step out of line... I'll show them what I'm capable of."
