Inside the Guild at That Time
"Damn, the kid must be giving it his all." Macao said as he sat down.
"Well, the Master did say he was going to push him to his limits." Ur replied
"Haha, I just hope the kid breaks a few bones. Builds character."Gildargts said while laughing.
Suddenly, from the other side of the guild—
"Did you say something, Dad?" Cana asked out loud.
"N-N-Nothing!!!" Gildarts stammered out quickly.
"Hahahaha!" The entire guild burst into laughter.
BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!
"What the hell?!" Wakabe cried out.
Everyone jumped up at the sound of a massive explosion.
"Where did that come from?!" Cornelia asked as she made sure the cups filled with beer did not fall to the ground.
"It came from Porlyusica's mountain… Damn, how the hell did the kid pull that off without his arrows?!" Ur complained as the food she took had fallen on her clothes.
"I just hope he's alright…" Cana prayed gently.
At the Mountain
"Karna! Karna, wake up, kid! Come on, don't make this old man worry about you, you idiot!" Makarov cried out in worry as he shook Karna again and again.
"Ugh… What, Master?" Karna groaned as he woke up.
"Oh, thank God you're alright."
I was lying on the ground, completely drained, my body covered in severe injuries and nearly out of mana. I took a deep breath, looking around, and immediately noticed my right arm—it was completely burned. It didn't seem like there would be permanent damage, but I was definitely going to have some scars.
As I turned my gaze upward, I saw the sky, then looked around to see the destruction I had caused. A large portion of the forest was obliterated, and the ground was torn apart. That meant my attack had worked. But the injuries I sustained made it clear—I still had a long way to go before I could use that move in real combat.
I turned toward Gramps and saw that my attack had only grazed him. Damn, the Wizard Saint title is no joke.
I asked him hesitantly,
"Did I… fail the test, Gramps?"
He looked at me for a moment, saying nothing. Then, he stood up, dusted off his clothes, walked over to me, and—
BAM!!!
"Owww! My head!" Karna cried out.
"Really, you idiot?! Your hand is wounded badly enough to alarm an ordinary person or wizard, and the first thing you ask is whether you passed the test?!"He scowled at me before sighing.
"And what the hell were you thinking, using such a reckless and untested move mid-battle? Do you have any concern for your own safety?!"
I couldn't stop myself from laughing. Maybe it was the shock, maybe the adrenaline was still rushing through me, but I just burst out into laughter.
"And now you're laughing like an idiot? Just when I thought I had a disciple who was smart and mentally stable…!"
Grumbling to himself, he enlarged his body slightly and picked me up.
After a few minutes of walking, he suddenly asked,
"Kid, where did you get the idea for that move?" Makarov asked curious as he had never seen him doing anything similar to that before.
"Well… It was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing. I had some ideas about it before, but never really had the chance to test it."
"Hmph… The technique you were attempting is called Magic Flow Blast. Its theories are similar to Unison Raid, and just like Unison Raid, it was deemed an unachievable magic."
"Seriously?!" Karna asked shocked that the idea was used before.
"Yeah, kid. And listen to me very carefully—you better not use that again until you've fully analyzed and perfected it. Got it?"
"Alright, Gramps."
"Good. And by the way—you passed."
"…Wait, what? You're not kidding, right?" Karna asked as he was shocked.
"Nope. We had already decided that if you could hold out for a designated time, you'd pass. That was the actual test."
Then, he looked at me with a smirk.
"But who knew you'd be such a reckless idiot—not only lasting until the end but even surprising me?"
"But you only got a few scratches…"
"Kid, you think I was just standing there? I used my magic to erect a full-body shield. The fact that you even managed to scratch a Wizard Saint while using an experimental technique instead of your primary magic? If the wizards of the continent heard about this, they'd either think it was staged or that you're the biggest idiot of the century." Makarov laughed as he talked about the fight.
"Haha… So, I'm S-Class material, huh?"
"Magic-wise? Absolutely. But you still lack experience. S-Class missions are extremely complicated, and no two quests are ever the same. So don't get cocky—stay cautious."
"Got it, Gramps." Karna promised.
With that, we happily headed off to get me patched up.
The Moment of Realization…
As we walked toward Porlyusica's house, a terrible thought struck us both at the same time.
We had just come from an intense battle… and we were covered in severe injuries.
We suddenly broke into a cold sweat.
"H-Hey, kid… Your wounds will heal by themselves, right?" Makarov stammered out.
"Y-Yeah! Yeah, they will! Let's just go back and sleep. I'm sure I'll be fine by morning…" Karna replied while trembling.
"Yeah! Let's do that! No need to bother Porlyusica, hahaha…"
We both slowly started turning away—
CREAK.
The door to Porlyusica's house swung open.
She stepped out.
She saw my burned arm, my bruised body, and Makarov's tattered clothes.
Her expression froze.
A chill spread through the air.
A shiver ran down both of our spines.
"Get inside." Porlyusica ordered
Her voice was eerily calm.
We were too terrified to move.
"I SAID GET INSIDE, YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOTS! OR DO YOU WANT ME TO BREAK YOUR LEGS AND DRAG YOU IN?!"
Gramps bolted inside at full speed, carrying me in his arms like a sack of potatoes.
He dropped me onto the table and tried to escape—
But just as he reached the door—
"Who told you that you could leave?"
Gramps froze.
Slowly, he turned around.
Instead of her usual broom, she was holding an iron staff.
"Now, Porlyusica, let's not be rash—"
He took a step back—
Wrong direction.
His back hit the wall.
"Damn it, God, I'm trapped…" Makarov cried.
"Makarov… Seems like you've forgotten my warning after all these years. Must be the effects of old age. But don't worry—I'll make sure to refresh your memory once I'm done patching up the idiot you call a disciple."
That night, the entire town of Magnolia echoed with bloodcurdling screams.
The Fairy Tail members shivered in fear, silently praying for their master's survival.
