I gripped the steering wheel a little tighter than usual, my nerves sparking like static in the air. Chris glanced over from the passenger seat, his calm brown eyes scanning my face as he took some pain meds and stretched his arm a bit. "You okay?" he asked quietly placing a reassuring hand on my thigh.
A small laugh came out of me. "Yeah, just…preparing you for the circus we're about to walk into." A country club reunion might not seem like a circus, but in my family, it can feel like one. I gave Chris the rundown as we merged onto the main road leading out of the city.
