I have to protect my people

I was on my feet in an instant, my hand on the hilt of my sword. "To arms!" I shouted, my voice cutting through the din. "Protect the castle!"

I was already moving, barking orders to the solders and guards as they scrambled to their feet. Ava remained seated, her expression unreadable.

I turned to her, my eyes narrowing. "Explain. Now."

Ava stood slowly, her gaze never wavering. "The kingdom is corrupt, Zephara. You know this. We seek change, and we will fight for it."

My heart raced, my mind a whirlwind of betrayal and duty. "And what of the people? Will you drag them into your war?"

"They follow us willingly," Ava replied. "They crave freedom as much as we do."

My grip on my sword tightened. "Then let us see if your conviction holds true in the face of battle."
