Gofumina screamed, feeling the Curse of the Armor and the Sword she recklessly equipped beginning to encompass her Body and Soul. A strange, monstrous, and otherworldly presence was aiming to make her go mad, trying to corrupt her mind.

She fell into the black grass and started vomiting blood and bleeding from her eyes, nose, and ears while she convulsed; the Emerald Knights relished her suffering, as they had already imagined this would happen to them.

However, as this happened, a half-elf girl descended from the skies, holding a magical spear made of wood and an aura of nature and spirits.

"Hey! A-Are you alright?!"

Emerlinda's voice echoed from afar as she saw the goblin girl convulsing in agony while bleeding from her eyes, nose, ears, and mouth. She seemed to be slowly being consumed by something malign and evil!

"Uwaah! W-What's going on?! Why did you do this to her?"

After realizing what was happening, Emerlinda quickly ran in front of the goblin girl, glaring at the four knights in front of her, holding her spear tightly, her aura slowly growing stronger.

She confronted them while protecting the helpless goblin girl, whom she saw bleeding and dying; she obviously imagined she was the victim of some sort of attack from these people, whoever they were.

"A Wood Elf?"

"A rare face indeed…."

"But the Emerald Maiden would accept just about anything."

"She is not picky about her meals!"

The cultists seemed to not mind Emerlinda, not even be afraid of her appearing out of nowhere. They spoke like robots, possessed by something else that had overtaken their bodies.

Resembling emerald-colored blurs, they reached Emerlinda and attacked her fiercely, swinging their swords at her and trying to cut through her flesh and blood and then melt her with their acid.

However…

FLASH!

Emerlinda instantly took off into the skies, evading the attacks coming at her, while her Spiritual Aura, infused with both of her Spirits, took the shape of a hand, grabbing Gofumina with her.

"A-Are you alright? Hey! Can you heal her, guys?" She asked if her spirits could heal her, but as much as they tried, the curse overtaking the goblin girl didn't seem to disappear at all. "No? Agh!"

The Emerald Knights glanced from the ground below, filled with frustration, their swords charged with their malefic energy. Together as one, they swung their weapons against her, releasing several slicing shockwaves of emerald, miasmic acid-like aura.

SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!

"Woah!"

Emerlinda quickly evaded the incoming attacks while rapidly using her spear to fight back, infusing her spiritual energy into it and then…

"{Magic Spirit Spear Arts}: {Light Javelin}!"

She swung her spear down, and its aura suddenly divided into dozens of javelins made of spiritual light, hitting the Emerald Knights and releasing explosions upon contact.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The Emerald Knights released powerful auras to defend, but their cursed auras were purified by the spiritual light. Their armor gained cracks, as little pieces of them fell into the ground.

"I'm not as weak as you think I am!" Emerlinda said. "I won't let you—"

FLASH!

"You're going to be a good sacrifice for the Emerald Maiden."

Out of nowhere, an Emerald Knight appeared from behind Emerlinda, swinging their sword against her. She narrowly evaded a fatal blow, her own living, spiritual aura pushing her away from danger.

SLAAASH!

"W-Wha…?!"

Emerlinda glanced at the knight; she was sure she had attacked and pushed away all four of them, yet there was now a fifth.

This Emerald Knight, though, was different, with much heavier armor and with a crown-shaped helmet; his sword was twice as big as the others, and he was also holding a shield.

He seemed more like an Emerald Paladin!

"W-Who are you?! Who are you people?"

Emerlinda asked that question as she created barriers and resisted the incoming blows. The Emerald Knights couldn't fly, but the Emerald Paladin could float easily, chasing after her and attacking her fiercely.

CLASH! CLASH! CLASH!

Her barriers shattered one after another as Emerlinda went on the offensive again, evading another slash towards her head, ducking down, and pointing her spear towards the man's neck, right beneath the helmet; her spirits assisted her at seeing weak points and at moving dexterously through her [Spiritual Aura] Skill.

"{Magic Spirit Spear Arts}: {Piercing Wooden Roots}!"

Her spear suddenly transformed into several wooden roots; the sword was stuck into some of them, but the rest all reached the Emerald Paladin's neck, piercing his neck as blood splattered out.

"Ngaaarrggh!"

The man screamed, asphyxiating with his own blood, only for his sword to quickly slice through Emerlinda's spear and then reach her face.

CLAAASH!

A powerful blow hit her, but her Spirit Aura narrowly managed to protect her, although the magic acid melted her aura itself, making it much weaker and smaller.

"Nnnggh…! My love for the Emerald Maiden is eternal!"

The Emerald Paladin screamed as his aura suddenly erupted, roaring and resembling a monster with countless floating eyes and tentacles made of red slime.

"GRUOOOHHHH!"

"W-What is that?!"

Emerlinda tried to attack the Aura, or the thing within it, but it was futile! Dozens of tentacles hit her entire body; her Spiritual Aura protected her, but it rapidly was reduced to nothing.

CLASH! CLASH! CLASH! CLASH!

She fell from the skies with that last blow melting through a part of her armor as she reached the ground below, hitting it strongly.

BAAAM!

Emerlinda slowly opened her eyes, coughing blood as she looked into the skies; the Emerald Paladin's wound was still bleeding, with pieces of wood stuck there, yet the man continued moving towards her, like some sort of zombie.

And what's worse, the other four Emerald Knights had already stood back up, chasing after her the moment they saw her reach the ground once more.

"Oh no…!"

Emerlinda tried to stand up, but she was about to run out of Arcana by now; she had never had such an intense battle before, only fighting and hunting monsters with other players or NPC.

Nothing quite like this!

"Prepare yourself to melt into nothing!"

"Your flesh and blood shall become her meals!"

"The Emerald Maiden awaits you within her endless gastric juices!"

"Perish and become her sustenance!"

The crazed cultists leaped towards her, pointing their swords towards Emerlinda.

She might be a Player, but she knew her death would be painful!

"S-Someone! Please, someone help me out!"

As the swords were millimeters from piercing her flesh…

TRUUUM!

An invisible force slammed them away while they were in midair! The force, shaped like a hand, quickly followed after them, crushing them into the ground with tremendous pressure.

"Uuaaaggh!"

"W-What's this?!"

"Psychic… energy?!"

"There's an Esper here?!"

The Cultists panicked as Ermelinda smiled, noticing that Camilla was floating right above her; the girl had followed her when she saw Emerlinda descending to help a struggling goblin.

"Camilla! You're here!"

"Emerlinda… You shouldn't have come here just to save some random person you saw screaming for help…"

"I-I'm sorry… but I just can't stand still! What if it's a quest?! I can't miss it!"

"A-A quest?"

Camilla truly didn't understand Players sometimes…

But that didn't matter right now.

"An Esper… I didn't expect to meet someone of your caliber here… But it does not matter! Everything is the same in front of the Emerald Maiden's eyes!"

The Emerald Paladin confronted Camilla.
