Chapter 8: Satan's Incarnation

Somewhere in the realm of the Sky people, where we find an angel conversing with the masked creature.

Ircas: So, famed hunter, even with divine blessing you failed to kill a child.

Hunter (bowing down in fear): Ssir, the Duke of Conmoditas had foiled my plan.

Ircas: Excuses are for the weak, mortal, you have failed me, and now you shall face the consequences.

Hunter (proceeds to burn): No please no noooooo.

Ircas: Incompetent fool.

High Celestial: Ircas, I fear that the incarnation might rise to power.

Ircas: Do not fret father, I'll make sure that Satan's Incarnation does not reach into our realm (smiles)

The scene shifts to the duke's mansion in Conmoditas where everyone is preparing for a grand celebration.

Sebastian (speaking to the maids): A little bit to the left, now, is the cake ready, everything must be perfect for this day.

Max walks into the hall and behind Sebastian

Max: What's the occasion

Sebastian: Oh! Young master, you startled me; well, actually the duke has hosted a party, yes.

Max: But why

Sebastian: Oh, it's nothing special, you do not need to trouble yourself young master.

Max (a bit skeptical): Oookay.

Max

Everyone is acting weird today, they seem to be hiding something from me, and even Suki seems like that. Well, I need not bother myself with petty secrets; I need to get much stronger if I need to exact my revenge on the Froshian emperor. To research more about magic and the world I went to the grand library.

As I entered, I saw Ai sitting in a corner reading a book, usually, she is with her brother, but now she was alone. I approached her to start up a conversation.

Max: Hi there

Ai: !!!

Max: Sorry to startle you but I wanted to find some books about this world and advanced magic.

Ai: It's the third row of bookshelves to your right, all of them are about this world and its magic.

Max: Thanks, I can't help but notice something strange about you.

Ai: What do you mean?

Max: Your magic aura feels more powerful than an average elf, for some reason, it feels more...

Ai: Divine.

Max: ... yes.

Ai (chuckles softly): Why don't we take a walk in the garden?

Max follows Ai and both of them walk side by side to the gardens

Ai: Well, when I was born my father says I was a very timid child, the doctors said that I didn't have much time left and could die any day. Devastated, my parents searched for a cure for my condition; at that very moment, an angel appeared and made my mother an offer, he was willing to lend me his powers for my mother's soul; she accepted and I was blessed by that angel and baptized Ai, the giver of life.

Max: I'm so sorry.

Ai: Don't be, it's not like was your fault. 

Max: Well then, if you need me, I'll be in the library.

After saying my goodbyes, I headed straight to the library to read some books on advanced magic. Due to my abnormal eidetic memory, it was very easy for me to understand the basis of these spells, as I was about to leave the library Suki showed up and asked me to come to the grand hall; people had been telling me not to go there since the day started but now, she invites me? It was a bit odd but what's the worst that could happen as I entered the hall, I saw everybody together; they shouted HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!; all of this was for me, I just stared at them and tears started trickling down my cheek; I did not realize it at first but that caught everyone's attention, I quickly wiped off my tears and thanked everyone for the party; after that all, the other guests had arrived and fortunately for me, the entertainment program had just started, everyone was busy again, the duke was busy with his friends; Sebastian was busy with serving other people; Azra and Ai were busy playing with the other noble kids and I was here daydreaming; this party was actually a good opportunity to make some good connections with other nobles so, I might as well get started with that.

I talked to some friends of Azra; these all were the children of high-ranking officials, so I found it best to be well acquainted with them and due to my flattery it didn't take me long to be on their good side, as I turned toward the balcony I saw a girl my age wearing a red and white gown, she seemed sick so I decided to follow her from a safe distance as Iobserved I even saw three other boys who were seemingly bullying her but she just stood there out of breath; just as I was about to approach them I saw her look at them with bloodlust in her eyes, she was a vampire whose fangs had just matured and she was ready to kill them.

I quickly jumped into action; I knocked out the boys first and held the vampire in a lock, she managed to escape it and reached for my neck, I let her have her fill as it was the only way to stop a bloodthirsty vampire; after she drank my blood she fainted; to be honest, I should be the one fainting, she nearly sucked half my blood, I sneakily put the unconscious boys back in a safe place and tried to wake the vamp up.
