A few days later
I shot upright from my dead sleep, sweat pouring down my forehead. I know my dreams are playing God, and I am being judged for my actions. I have been feeling guilty for not visiting Allie. She is probably so deeply hurt and confused. I just couldn't return knowing that I am a werewolf. She deserves better than being with a monster, and if I ever accidentally hurt her, I would never forget myself.
"You alright?" Ivana asks. I must admit it was a little awkward sleeping around her. Of course, being a vampire, she didn't sleep much.
"Yeah, just a dream."
"You mean nightmare?"
"I'm not sure it technically was a nightmare." I rub the back of my neck.
"Well, you did wake up quickly."
"Just my brain playing with my guilt."
"Guilt, oh do tell."
I laugh at her curiosity.
"There was a girl at the foster home I was at, I was in love with her. I promised I would return to visit, but I never did."
"Oh, how come?"
"I just figured she deserves better than a werewolf."
She smiles. "I think you are a pretty good catch."
I think Ivana is very beautiful, and over the past few days, I have found that we have a similar personality. She's a perfect combination of smug and hilarious. But her disregard for life does turn me. Just over the few days we've been together, I have seen her end numerous creatures' lives. I understand she's thirsty, but I feel downhearted watching her kill these creatures.
"Ivana, I will probably leave tomorrow. We should go in a separate direction."
I see the sadness hit her face and her eyes on the ground.
"I understand, I just enjoyed the company, Smoke."
I nod. "Have you been on your own ever since you entered the forest?"
"Yeah, one woman Clan."
I smile. "That's very brave."
"But I'm not very brave. I need a big strong werewolf to protect me." I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the silly smirk that flies over her pale face. I feel her cold hand on mine.
"I can never watch you kill my kind."
She nods. "Then I won't. I will never harm a werewolf."
"But I was always taught that a vampire's word isn't trustworthy." I flash her a grin, so she knows that I was just playing around.
"Mine is." Her beautiful golden brown eyes had a special kind of twinkle. My hand gently rubs her cheek, and it feels as if I just put my hand in freezing ice water, like the lake I used to go ice fishing on.
She brings her lips to mine, and the motion makes me jump. I have never felt cold lips before, and perhaps I haven't kissed a girl that my heart had growing feelings for since Allie. All the other girls in the club were just a fling, they didn't mean anything. Despite my good side telling me no, I kiss her eagerly, moving my lips across hers.
Her lips break away from mine, ending our kiss a little early for satisfaction.
"Do you have feelings for me, Smoke?"
I look into her eyes. My hand moves the strand of falling hair behind her ear.
"I did technically just meet you."
"You don't believe in love at first sight?"
I tried to swallow down the laughter. " Sorry, brave one, but I don't believe in fairy tales."
