The Kiss I Didn’t Ask For

My heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might jump out of my chest. I could hear it echoing in my ears. Xavier’s hand moved gently to the back of my head, holding me steady as his lips stayed pressed to mine. I was frozen, completely stunned. His lips were soft, extremely soft and warm . And when his tongue brushed against mine, it sent a shock through my whole body.

He kissed me like his life depended on it.

His hands slid down to my waist, and before I could process it, he lifted me onto the kitchen counter. I clung to his shoulders, completely lost in whatever this was—until a sudden high-pitched whistling broke through the haze.

I gasped, pulling away instantly. My head whipped toward the stove, where the kettle was screaming. That damn boiling kettle had yanked me back to reality.

And then it hit me.

I kissed him.
