Marvel: Game Master System

Chapter 3: The X Mansion

Alex chose the X-Mansion as the setting for his game. It seemed like an ideal place, since it was the home and school of the X-Men, the team of mutant superheroes who defended their species and the world. Alex admired the X-Men and wanted to meet them in person.

G.A.M.E. Told him:

"You have chosen Mansion X as the setting. Now you must choose the characters that will appear in your game. Which characters do you want to choose?"

Alex thought about the characters he wanted to include in his game. He wanted there to be both allies and enemies, and for them to be consistent with the story and setting. He came up with some that seemed essential to him:

"The characters I want to choose are: Alex (the protagonist), Jean Gray (the mentor), Charles Xavier (the director), Scott Summers (the leader), Logan (the rival), Ororo Munroe (the friend), Magneto ( the antagonist), Mystique (the spy) and Apocalypse (the final villain)."

G.A.M.E. Told him:

"You have chosen the characters you mentioned. Now you must assign them a role, a personality, an appearance and some abilities. What role do you want to assign to each character?"

Alex thought about the role she wanted to assign to each character. He wanted each one to have a function and a relationship with the protagonist. She came up with the following roles:

"Alex is the hero, the character that the player controls. Jean Gray is the mentor, the one who teaches him to use his power and helps him control the Phoenix. Charles Xavier is the director, the one who welcomes him to the X Mansion and offers his support. Scott Summers is the leader, the one who directs the X-Men team and gives them orders. Logan is the rival, the one who competes with him for Jean's affection and constantly challenges him. Ororo Munroe is the friend , the one who offers him friendship and advises him. Magneto is the antagonist, the one who leads the rebellious mutants and wants to use the power of the Phoenix for his cause. Mystique is the spy, the one who infiltrates the X-Mansion and tries to sabotage their plans. Apocalypse is the final villain, the one who wants to destroy the world and create a new one in his image."

G.A.M.E. Told him:

"You have assigned a role to each character. Now you must assign them a personality, appearance, and skills. What personality do you want to assign to each character?"
