Learning Skills and Magic

I turned the page and kept reading:

Chapter 2: Skills

"Even though the title of this book is 'Magic for Beginners,' I'll also talk about skills. So, what exactly are skills? They're abilities you have that get better with practice, kind of like spells you can use to do powerful stuff.

Now, you might be asking: 'How do I get skills, and where do I see them?' Well, getting a skill is like getting good at something by doing it over and over, like throwing a ball or shooting an arrow. Or you can buy rare skill scrolls, but they're expensive. You can keep track of your skills at an adventure hall."

Ah, the adventure hall, where people sign up for quests to help others. It's not a fancy job, but it's not too hard either, and you don't need too much knowledge. Also, everyone can do it no matter what stand they have.

"Getting better at a skill makes you even better at it. That's all you need to know about skills for now, since this book is mostly about magic."

But something didn't add up. The book talked about skills differently from what I'd heard. It splits them into passive and active skills. Passive ones can work without you doing anything, even if you're out cold, while active ones need you to do something specific to work.

I wasn't sure if the book got it right.

»No, the book's not completely right. The author is limited in his knowledge and so his definition is not 100% correct« the system explained.

Interesting. So maybe they don't know everything about their world. That probably means that they don't have a system that's helping them like it does me. But do they know about other worlds?

»Some countries know about other worlds and have brought people from them,« the system shared.

But I thought that was impossible for regular people. Nobody could enter another world without the permission of a greater being. That was what the god said. Did he lie to me?

»Not quite. They brought people from the same realm, so they didn't need special permission from someone«

Ah, that made sense. With that sorted, I turned to Chapter 3: Learning Magic, ready to learn more.

"There are different types of learning magic. One way is to use books and search about them and try to learn them by yourself. Another way is to use expensive scrolls to learn the basics of magic types or spells. And the most common way used by people with enough money is to hire a teacher. He can guide and show how the spell is performed and can help to control the magic of the learner to decrease the damage by accidents.

Here is a warning for everyone who is trying to learn magic alone out of a book or a scroll: Magic is dangerous and can cause your death if you use it wrong. Be aware of this part and maybe consider getting yourself a teacher."

Again, he is talking about how dangerous it is. It's not making me comfortable about learning magic.

»You don't have to worry. Since you got a second chance from a god, who said that you'll be great in magic, you will have talent in using magic.«

The true words of the system gave me a feeling of security and reassured me. "I guess you are right and I shouldn't give up before I even tried," I said and continued reading.

As the sun dips behind the towering trees, casting giant shadows across the room, the light begins to wane, challenging my efforts to gain more of the crucial information within the book. Fortunately, thanks to my quick memory, I had already gathered all of the knowledge of the book from the world's magic. The initial three chapters proved to be the most important, while the later sections offered only general knowledge, failing to propel me closer to my goal of mastering magic.

With a sigh of resignation, I close the weighty tome before me, its pages echoing with the weight of untapped wisdom. Just as I shut the book, a voice breaks the silence and speaks in my head:

»New job available!«

The announcement catches me off guard, sparking curiosity and intrigue. What could this new job be about? I like to check my stats but a more important idea flashed into my head. I need to find candles to use my time as best as possible. I could check my stats later but with everything second I was waiting the light would vanish completely and my chances wouldn't stand good getting some light.

Hastily, I rise from my seat, my footsteps echoing against the wooden floorboards as I make my way to the second room, searching for candles or any other source of light.

As I enter the dimly lit second room, my eyes scan the shelves and surfaces in search of any sign of candles. However, my efforts failed and I found no candles or alternative light sources. Frustration begins to rise at the edges of my determination.

Realizing that my search was a complete failure, I went back to the first room, my mind racing about this situation. I reminded myself that it wasn't such a big problem and that I would have to learn to deal with it. Candles would only be a temporary solution.

I sat down on the chair and opened my stats:
