Chapter 43: Turning the Tables

Hades POV

Sealing the spell left him with a sense of emptiness somehow.

He’d just achieved a lifelong goal, emphasis on long. Yet he experienced a colossal letdown.

“We did it,” Zillah said in the eerie echo of the Dark Goddess. “You’ve proven yourself worthy, my servant. Let’s go and properly greet our new servants.”

“As you command, Dark Mistress.”

He strode out from the shadows, breathing deeply to restore his energy. The spell had been complex and it seemed uneven at the end. Probably his overly critical mind finding fault where there was none. Still, something seemed off. Maybe the spell wouldn’t be effective.

Impossible. Alpha Dane and Alpha Jiro stared at him with blank, carefree expressions. Jiro’s eyes had turned wolf red, while Dane’s had become wolf golden. Garnet’s were red, while Kyon’s were golden. Barrett … well, he didn’t care about Barrett. A Beta, nothing more. Lilia’s eyes were vacant and dreamy. The others’ eyes looked similar.
