Chapter 40: Intel

The sun was barely over the horizon, casting a bright light through the massive window behind Finn’s desk. Every morning, Finn and I went to the mansion to meet with Luce and the underbosses, early. It was too early.

I covered my mouth as a yawn rose up and I arched my back until my spine popped.  

“I moved a spy into Midnightshadow’s ranks,” Declan reported. “So far, Sablepelt is quiet.”

“It’s the same all around, Boss. None of us have felt so much as a whisker twitch from Callum or his men,” Asher agreed.

I watched Finn’s passive face as he listened to their reports. He nodded along in agreement but he made no expression.

“Good. Keep me apprised if anything changes,” he concluded.

“Wait, no, not good.” I slid off the edge of his desk and stood in front of the underbosses.

Five pairs of eyes blinked at me and I felt Finn’s gaze burning into me from behind.
