Chapter 46: This was a Mistake

Shadows retreated across the living room floor as sunlight burst through the floor-to-ceiling windows. From so high up, it looked like a wildfire spread across the sky.

I leaned on the back of Callum’s white couch, watching the light as it took over the entire room.

A few hours ago, he went to bed. He offered me a room but I couldn’t sleep. It meant letting my guard down.

“Dum de dum, de doo, doo.” Callum came down his winding staircase and grinned at me. He stretched his arms over his head. “You should have slept. You look tired.”

I scoffed. “I’ll be fine.”

“You know, I’m not your enemy.”

“I know exactly whose enemy you are. You do realize that’s a conflict of interest for me.” My hand went to the mark on my neck.

It was still tender.

“Why don’t we discuss it further over breakfast.” Callum hummed to himself while he clattered around in the kitchen.
