The Event

"Are you alright?" Lara crouched to help him up, but he grabbed her ears and pulled them. "Are you crazy? What type of joke was that?"

"Hey, leave me." Lara pushed his hand and stood up; Aaron pulled her ear as well. "You need to be taught a lesson."

She tried freeing his hand, but the more she tried, the more it hurt. "Which right do you have to teach me a lesson?" she pouted.

"We are your brothers." Tyler took off his slippers, and seeing this, she quickly pushed Aaron and hurried to the door when Tyler followed her.

"I will hit you hard."

Lara opened the door, and there stood Jet. "You.."

She quickly hid behind him. Jet stared at her, confused, then at Tyler, who was holding slippers.

"Good morning," Jet said, and Tyler quickly dropped the slippers.

"Ah, I was trying to kill a cockroach."

"Why are you both bullying me?" Lara pouted and trudged back inside.

"Just because I made a silly joke that we didn't have the..." Before she could finish her words, Aaron and Tyler both jumped on her, and Aaron used his palm to close her mouth.

"Umm, should I come back?" Jet questioned, and Tyler smiled at him. "Why are you here?"

"Yesterday, I forgot to tell you the name of the website, and I also didn't give my contact information, so how are you guys going to order?"

"You came here because of that?" Aaron asked in a suspicious tone. He sighed nervously and smiled at them. "Not that. See, the group needed someone to come tell you guys about the event tonight, and I was the unfortunate one."

"What event?" Lara succeeded in saying some words.

"Leave me!" she yelled. Aaron and Tyler finally let her be before giving her a warning glare. She already realized her mistake. She was about to blurt out about the watch in front of a stranger.

"So, will you guys come to the event?" Jet asked, and they stared at each other.

"What event is it?"

"We are very close in this community; we treat ourselves like family. The community is filled with so many goons, but we don't hate them because they don't hurt us. Because the government doesn't hire people with no background, the majority of them decided to drop school and become thugs," Jet explained with a sad tone.

"So there is always a competition among the goons, a friendly competition, and the ladies of the community organize dance, music, and good food. No one will be working tonight. So will you guys join?"

"No, you guys have fun," Aaron replied at once. Lara was about to refute when he stared at her angrily, so she quickly swallowed back her words.

"If you don't come, then you might be causing trouble for yourself, as they will think you guys are proud. So you should bond with everyone."

"We are busy, and of course we are proud. We didn't stop school because the government won't hire us in the future"

Jet was speechless; he never expected such a reply from them. So he extended his card towards them. "You can call this number to order food from the restaurant."

Lara collected it before she walked back towards Aaron. "And I won't tell them what you said, so if you change your mind, then you will be welcomed."

Then he left. Tyler closed the door as they both turned to Aaron. "You told us not to give ourselves out, but you are doing it."

"Giving ourselves out will be attending that event."

"Aaron, you confuse me a lot of times, ahh." Lara sat on the couch with a frustrated look, then a smile curled on her lips. "He said he wouldn't tell the others what you just said because he loves peace. I am sure he isn't a thug, just a server boy."

"And what's fun there that you are smiling?" Tyler asked.

"He is handsome and not a nerd, so how about him being my boyfriend? Do you think I forgot about our deal? Never"

"No, Lara, don't get involved with anyone in this community. Tyler didn't do his homework correctly," Aaron said in an angry tone, which made Tyler frown.

"What do you mean by that?"

"How could you be so reckless to choose this place?" Aaron scolded.

"I chose this place after considering a lot of facts, and you were the one who asked us to come to Reno; if anything bad happens, then you better blame yourself."

This was the first time Lara saw Tyler and Aaron get into an argument. "Hey, guys..." She tried to calm them, but Aaron said something that left them both speechless.

"Pack up; we are leaving."

"No, we are not." Tyler sneered. He wouldn't run from a safe place just because Aaron said they should.

"I am not leaving as well; just for once, let me be happy." Lara retorted, and Aaron sighed.

"You don't get it; it's better to be in a place filled with cops than to be in a place filled with thugs."

"They say the thugs of this community don't hurt anyone; they care for one another. So we should be working on being part of them so they will protect us in times of hardship, not go against them or run away," Tyler scolded before he walked to his bedroom.

"I will go pick up our breakfast, and I am not leaving Aaron. For once, try thinking about us."

Lara left the building angrily. She kicked the trash can beside her and yelled in frustration, "What's his problem?"

"Those trash cans have feelings."

Lara jolted when she heard someone's voice from behind. She turned to find Jet. "You didn't leave?"

"No, I was thinking," he replied.

"About?"

"About what your brother said," Jet chuckled.

"Which of them?"

"The tall one with fair skin

"Oh, Aaron? He says a lot of things that he doesn't mean, you know, so don't take his words to heart." They both walked down the street.

"He was right; there is a difference between people who stopped school because they were scared the government wouldn't give them work and people who stopped school because they wanted to."
