The Breaking Point

Evening

It was 19:05 in the evening, and I was on my way home. Walking in the streets alone wasn't safe anymore, but I wasn't scared. What was there to be scared of anyway? Thieves? Murderers? Perhaps men? Sure, anything was possible at that rate, especially since there was a recent murder. But who cared anyway? After Didi's funeral, she would be forgotten. Just like any other women who died. Just like men.

I checked my phone and found that I had 75 missed calls from Nobomi. I didn't realize my phone was on silent. It made me wonder if there really was something wrong back at home. Was I wrong to choose Anati over Nobomi?

I called her number and waited until she answered.

"Hi there! This is Nobomi. I'm currently not available, so please leave a message after the beep."

"Gosh. Her phone is never off," I thought to myself.

I wasn't worried though. By the time I got home, she'd complain, yap until her tongue dropped, and everything would be back to normal. No big deal.
