Unspoken Pain

Back at Thando's House

The house was wrapped with a grim blanket of silence. It was so quiet, the only sound that could be heard was the tapping of Nobomi's worn shoes on the tiles as she paced back and forth in the hallway. The setting sun, a bruised orange, bled through the window, painting her silhouette in long, distorted shadows that stretched across the hallway like anxious ghosts. When Nobomi noticed it, she checked her watch, sucking in the cold air through her teeth.

"Why isn't she home yet?" She nervously thought to herself.

She made her way to Dorcus's room and knocked on the door. It took five knocks until Dorcus finally peeped her head through the door.

"What?" She croaked, her breath having a sour smell to it

"Where's Thando?" Nobomi asked, her voice tight

"Do I look like I know where she is?" Dorcus retorted, flickering her eyes

"You go to the same school as her. You should know where she is."

"Well I don't. Can you leave me alone now?"
