Into The Deep, Chapter 1

A mermaid named Megan was sitting on a rock by the docks. Then she saw a boat coming and getting ready to port. Megan then dived into the ocean and went back to Atlantica. Once she reached there, she swam through the palace with all the other merpeople of Atlantica. Meanwhile, at the docks, a group of Vikings climbed aboard their ship, lifted the anchors, hoisted the mainsail, and sailed out to the shore. Captain Kayla thought it might be best to head to the North, so she steered the ship North. After the Vikings left, pirates climbed aboard their boat, lifted the anchors, hoisted the mainsail, and sailed to sea. Captain Joseph led the ship to the North without knowing the Vikings were heading in the same direction. While Captain Joseph steered, his first mate, First Mate Jeremy, hoisted the jolly roger above the sails.

Captain Kayla steered the Vikings' ship across the ocean and saw a bunch of sharks ahead. While the Vikings were paddling, Captain Joseph took out his telescope, looked straight forward, and noticed the sharks. Captain Joseph stopped his ship and checked his map to see where they were. Captain Joseph said, "Here's where we are, Shark Bite Bay." While the pirates and Vikings sailed towards the sharks, Megan peered out of the ocean and saw their boats. Since she didn't want the Vikings or the pirates to get hurt, Megan went back under the water, hurried to Shark Bite Bay, and whistled. Her whistle got the sharks' attention, and she swam away while the sharks chased her. Captain Kayla looked over the side of her boat and saw that all the sharks were leaving. Then Captain Joseph looked over the side of his ship and noticed the sharks left. Captain Kayla said, "The sharks, they're leaving. Now we can get out of here." Captain Kayla steered her ship through Shark Bite Bay without seeing one shark. After they made it out, Captain Joseph drove his boat through Shark Bite Bay without seeing any sharks.

Meanwhile, the sharks chased Megan to the sunken ship, where they hung out. Megan swam inside, and the sharks chased after her. While inside the boat, Megan grabbed a few things. Megan put a necklace from around a skeleton's neck and a seashell on the ground in her bag. When the sharks found her exploring the ship, they came after her, and she swam away. Then Megan swam out a porthole with her sack, but one shark got stuck when he tried to go after her. Then, the other sharks went out a different way and chased after Megan. Megan swam out of Shark Bite Bay, and the sharks chased after her. Megan swam through a cave, and the sharks did, too. When the sharks got out, they lost Megan and saw a humpback whale. Then the sharks got scared and swam back to Shark Bite Bay.

Megan came out from behind seaweed and laughed because her plan worked. Megan said, "Thanks, Willy." Then Megan looked above the water, saw that the pirates and Vikings were safe, and giggled. Megan then noticed that the pirates and Vikings looked satisfied with how well they did. Megan said, "They think they're tough because they made it out of Shark Bite Bay. But they don't know what lies ahead or that I helped them. I better follow them to ensure they don't get into more trouble."

When Captain Kayla saw some rocks ahead, she told her crew to lower the sail and use the oars for rowing around them. Captain Kayla's crew paddled to the left and then to the right and circled another two of the stones while she played her drum. Then, they sailed between two rocks and exited the cove. Captain Kayla said, "Nice work, crew." Once they left the cove, the Vikings put their oars away, and Captain Kayla stopped pounding her drum. Then they hoisted their sail again to sail the seas again.

Meanwhile, the pirates were heading toward the cove. While sailing, Captain Joseph looked through his telescope and saw giant rocks ahead. Captain Joseph checked his map and tried to figure out where they were. Captain Joseph said, "Ok, we passed Shark Bite Bay. That means we're at a place called Rocky Region Cove." Captain Joseph turned his ship to the left when they saw the rocks, and the stones missed them. Then Captain Joseph turned the wheel to the right and circled another one of the rocks. Then, he spun the wheel to the left and headed to the end of the cove.

Once he reached the end of the cove, he steered his ship between two rocks and made it out. Then Megan looked out from behind a rock and saw both the pirates and Vikings made it out. Megan said, "Impressive. But they think they're tough because they made it through Rocky Region Cove. Well, I'm tougher, and I love it around here." Megan then started to sing. Megan sang about what humans think of mermaids and how some are right and some are wrong. Megan jumped back in the water and sang while she swam. Megan sang about what mermaids do and how humans can't compare. Megan returned to the surface and sang about what Pirates and Vikings do and how mermaids can or can't match up. Megan then swam with a pack of dolphins and sang about how fast and mighty she and the other mermaids and mermen were. Megan then swam up to the surface and finished her song by singing about how the pirates and Vikings might be good explorers, but they must be wise to beat her because she knows more about the sea than all of them combined. Megan swam back under the sea and followed the pirates and Vikings when she got done singing.

Once she returned to the surface, she saw the pirate ship and Viking ship sailing away, so she jumped in and out of the water like a dolphin to catch up with them. Once she got to the pirate ship, she peered inside one of the portholes and saw Captain Joseph looking at their map. The sun started to go down while Captain Joseph checked at his atlas. Captain Joseph then went above deck. Captain Joseph said, "It's getting dark. Close the sails and stop the boat." Then Captain Joseph's crew closed their sails, dropped the anchors, and stopped the boat.

After they stopped their ship, all the pirates went to sleep. Before falling asleep, Captain Joseph set his map on his desk below deck and looked out one of the portholes. While he was looking, Megan hid behind the ship, waiting for him to leave. When Captain Joseph left, Megan grabbed the side of the boat, looked aboard, and heard somebody coming. Since one of the pirates was coming, Megan let go of the boat's side and returned to the water. Captain Joseph looked around his ship with a flashlight because he thought his crew wasn't the only people hanging around, but he didn't see anyone. Then he went to the side of the boat and looked around the water. When Megan saw the light, she got up against the ship, returned under the water, and swam to the Vikings' ship. When she got over to the Vikings' ship, she saw that they had dropped their sails and stopped their boat. Megan peered onboard the Vikings' ship and noticed they were about to lower their anchors.

The Vikings dropped their anchors and put sheets over the Vikings' oars and Captain Kayla's drum. After putting things away, they all went to sleep, and Megan went back into the water and swam toward the pirates' boat. Megan looked aboard the ship through a porthole and saw Captain Joseph awake while his crew was asleep. Then he picked up a dart and threw it at a picture of his brother, Adam. Megan said, "He knows how to hold a grudge. Then Megan jumped back in the water and swam to her garden under the water. Once she got to her field of coral and plants, she put her bag by the gate and ensured all her plants were healthy. Megan then looked at Atlantica before going to sleep. Megan then looked at one of her flowers and sang a verse from her mother's song from when she was younger. Megan quietly sang, "I'll be with you."
