Into The Deep, Chapter 2

Once morning came, the pirates and Vikings woke up and prepared to leave. The pirates and Vikings then raised their anchors and sails, and when the wind caught the mainsails, the pirates and Vikings started to set sail. Captain Joseph told his crew to head North, and Captain Kayla told the Vikings to do the same. While the pirates and Vikings sailed to the North, Megan woke up and went to the surface. Megan swam through a school of fish, right by a giant squid passing by, and then with many sea turtles on her way up. Once Megan got to the surface, she took her lyre from her bag and played it while singing about how much she liked the pirates and Vikings. Megan sang about how seeing the pirates' and Vikings' ships made her want to sing about their friendship. While Megan was singing, both the pirates and Vikings sailed by, and she quickly dived back into the water so that they wouldn't hear her singing and crash their ships. After the pirates and Vikings passed by, Megan sat down on the side of a giant rock and spied on them. Then she sang to the pirates and Vikings about how much she liked them, but they didn't hear her. When she finished singing, Megan jumped back in the water and swam with manatees and sea horses.

Meanwhile, the pirates and Vikings sailed into a cove, and Megan thought they'd be fine since the cove they were going in had a way out. The Vikings saw a whirlpool up ahead when they got into the cove. Captain Kayla said, "Everybody, hold on tight." The Vikings then closed their sails, floated into the vortex, and spun around in super-fast circles. Captain Kayla held on tight to her drum while her crew held on tight to the ship's end, the sail, and the flagpole up at the top of the mass. The pirates saw the Vikings spinning around in the whirlpool when they entered the cove. Then they lowered their sails and joined the Vikings in twirling round and round in the vortex super-fast. Captain Joseph said, "Hold on tight." Captain Joseph held on tight to the wheel while his crew held on to their jolly roger, plank, and ship's sides. The whirlpool spun them around even faster than they were already going. Once they reached the bottom of the vortex, the Pirates and Vikings got shot out of the cove.

Once they exited the cove, the pirates and Vikings raised their sails and continued to sail the seas. While they were cruising, Megan put her hand in the water, closed her eyes, and smiled because she liked how the ocean felt on her. Megan then swam to the pirates' boat, grabbed its side, and looked aboard. Once she did, she heard the pirates singing about what you must do if you want to be a pirate. All the pirates sang together about what pirates do. Captain Joseph sang about how they sailed the ocean blue and kept their treasure safe from raiders. First Mate Jeremy sang about how they fight raiders who try to raid their ship. And about how they make them walk the plank. All the pirates then sang together about what pirates do. Captain Joseph then sang about what they do when they sail the sea. And Second Mate Noah sang about the Jolly Roger and how much they liked it. All the pirates sang together to finish their song together. Megan returned to the water after hearing the pirates' song before any pirates saw her.

Once Megan got back under the water, she started to sing about how those pirates were tough and protective, but she was even better. She then sang about how she'd meet up with them soon enough. Megan then sang that even if they were great explorers, neither the pirates nor the Vikings would do anything to hurt her home. While Megan was singing, she swam past an octopus, jellyfish moving by, and a couple of manta rays. Megan then sang about how mermaids are enchanted and tough. And they can be friends with almost anyone if they like.

Megan then jumped in and out of the water with the narwhals while she sang about her many sea friends deep below the sea and her human friends when she made friends with them. When Megan finished singing, she swam back to the surface and peered out of the water. Captain Kayla then looked to her left and saw somebody in the water, and Megan went back under the water. Captain Kayla took her telescope, glanced where she noticed the person, and saw nobody around. Captain Kayla said, "That's odd. I could have sworn I saw somebody." Megan stated, "That was too close."

Megan swam above the water and over to the Vikings' ship. Megan peered aboard and overheard them talking about how they wanted treasure, so she got an idea. Then Megan returned to the sea, grabbed many mollusks, and assembled two pearl necklaces. After Captain Kayla was asleep, Megan swam up to the Vikings' boat, quietly crawled aboard, and put the pearls around Captain Kayla's neck while she sang to her. While Megan was singing, a sea lion and a sea otter looked aboard the Vikings' ship and saw Megan singing to the Viking captain like they were friends. Megan practically woke Captain Kayla up when she put the necklace around her neck, and Captain Kayla partially saw her while she was singing. Before Captain Kayla's crew saw her, Megan jumped off the side of the boat and went back into the water. Captain Kayla woke up and noticed the necklace Megan had given her, but she had no idea how it had ended around her neck. After Captain Kayla saw the pearls, she put them somewhere safe and went back to sleep. Then Megan quietly came up out of the water and smiled. Since Megan knew Captain Kayla was happy, she swam to the pirates' boat. Megan looked aboard and saw everybody asleep.

Megan then quietly crawled aboard and put the other pearl necklace around Captain Joseph's neck while singing to him. Megan sang the same song to Captain Kayla, and the same sea lion and sea otter on the Vikings' ship also witnessed her on the pirates' boat singing to the pirate captain like they were friends. When Megan finished, she saw the sun coming out and feared Captain Joseph might catch her. Before Megan left, she put on Captain Joseph's hat, put it back on him, and jumped back in the water.

The next day, Megan sat on a large rock, thinking about Captain Joseph and Kayla while playing her flute. Then she laid down on her stomach, put her hand in the water, and smiled because she liked how the ocean felt on her. When Megan saw a boat coming, she took her hand out of the water and hid behind the rock she had been sitting on all morning. Captain Joseph brought out his telescope and looked at the rock Megan hid behind because he thought he saw somebody there. Captain Joseph looked around but didn't see anyone, so he put his telescope away. Then Megan peered out from the side of the rock and saw Captain Joseph still wearing the necklace she had given him. After Megan saw Captain Joseph, she looked at her reflection in the water. Then Megan moved her hand through her image, and a baby sea turtle approached her. Megan picked the turtle up and rubbed its shell. When the turtle heard the Vikings coming, it jumped back into the water, but Megan stayed on the rock. Megan looked out from behind the rock and saw the Vikings' ship. Then Megan laid back on the rock and smiled because she was happy to watch the Vikings. What Megan didn't know was that her family was looking for her.

Megan looked at Captain Kayla and saw she wasn't wearing the necklace she had given her. Then Captain Kayla's pearls fell out of her pocket, and Megan was so happy she still had them. Then Megan sat down on the rock she was on when she saw the pirates doing something together. Megan said, "This I have to see." Megan went to the top of the rock to get a closer look at what the pirates were doing. When Megan got to the top, she saw the pirates dropping a net into the ocean and got scared. Even though Megan thought of the pirates as her friends, she couldn't let her sea friends get hurt.

Megan jumped back in the water, swam down to the bottom of the sea, and whistled. Then, many crabs came out of their homes, and Megan pointed at the pirates' net. Megan said, "Cut it." The crabs approached the trap and used their pinchers to cut the ropes. When the pirates brought their net up, they saw it got clipped, but they didn't know how. Then they brought their trap in and steered their ship off to the shore. Megan swam to the surface, saw the safe ocean, and followed the pirates. When Megan got to their boat, she grabbed and climbed the anchor. When Megan got to the top, she looked onboard and saw a few pirates practicing their sword fighting and other pirates making music. Megan was enjoying the music but not their sword-fighting practice. Since Megan wasn't appreciating it, she went back into the sea.

When nightfall came, Megan snuck on board the pirates' ship, crawled around, and went below deck. When she arrived, she looked around and found a special box on the captain's desk. Megan took the box and opened the top. Once she did, it played her a song while a pirate's ship spun around in a circle. Megan sat down and held the music box in her arms while listening to the song. When she heard somebody coming, she shut the music box, put it back on the desk, and jumped out of the porthole. Captain Joseph walked in and listened to the ocean water go splash, but he didn't see anybody below deck, so he left and locked the door. Megan said, "What a lovely song he kept in that box."

Megan sat down on the rock she was sitting on earlier and quietly sang to the pirates. Megan quietly sang, "That's what friends are for." When she finished singing, Megan jumped off the rock and landed on a killer whale's back. While Megan was on its back, the whale rode her across the ocean. While Megan was on its back, the whale went to the bottom of the sea and went to sleep. Megan said, "Thanks for the ride." Since the whole ocean was asleep, Megan went to sleep, too. While Megan was sleeping on the whale's back, the Vikings rowed by and dropped their anchors. After they lowered their anchors, Captain Kayla stopped playing her drum, and the Vikings put their oars away. After putting everything away, all the Vikings went to sleep and waited for morning.
