the wedding 2

The ring of the phone startled Elijah out of his thoughts. He picked it up, seeing the investigator's number on the screen. "Hello?" he said, trying to keep his voice even.

"Mr. Micheal," the investigator's voice was calm and steady. "I have some information for you that you may find... troubling."

Elijah felt his heart rate quicken. "What is it?" he asked, his mouth suddenly dry.

"I've been following Alexia, as you requested," the investigator said. "And it appears, madam is getting married

Elijah's thoughts were racing. He couldn't let Alexia get remarried, not to someone else. She belonged with him, he was sure of it. Even if she didn't know it yet, she was meant to be with him. He had to find a way to get her back, to make her see the truth.

But he couldn't go to his business partner's wedding. He couldn't sit there and watch Alexia marry someone else. He knew it would destroy him. He had to find another way, a way to get to her before it was too late.

As he thought, a plan began

Elijah called his business partner, his heart pounding in his chest. "I'm sorry," he said, his voice shaking. "But I'm not going to be able to make it to your wedding."

There was a long silence on the other end of the line. "What?" his partner finally asked, his voice filled with disbelief. "You can't just cancel at the last minute, Elijah. What's going on?"

Elijah took a deep breath, knowing he couldn't tell the truth. "I'm sorry, I just can't make it. I have other commitments."
