Chapter 10

Jamie woke up from his sleep, rubbing the back of his head. 'I had the weirdest dream,' he thought.

"Finally awake," Hansel said which startled Jamie.

"Hey," Jamie said, a little weirded out that his brother was probably watching him while he slept. But that wouldn't be the first time. He remembered his 'dream' and decided to tell him as a joke. "So hey, I had this weird dream, a girl kidnaped me in my class and her friends then--"

"Not a dream," Hansel interrupted him, then sighed. "Listen I have to tell you something," he said.

"You have powers?" Jamie exclaimed excitedly. "Can you fly?" he asked before Hansel could say any other thing.

"Yes," Hansel replied.

"Teleport?"

"Yes."

"Indestructibility?"

Hansel looked at him blankly. "To some extent," he said.

Jamie nodded. "So what's with the 'Demon General' title?" he asked.

"That's what I was in my past life," Hansel replied. "I never understood why that was my title though, I wasn't even a pure-blood demon," he said.

Jamie nodded understanding. 'He said past life,' he thought. "So how did you die?"

Hansel crossed his arms. "I refused to be taken alive as a prisoner of war," he said. "So I committed an act of suicide to keep my dignity."

Jamie's mouth opened agape. "Why would you--"

"It was the best idea at the time," Hansel replied. "It was either that or public execution... I think," he said.

Jamie raised an eyebrow at him, asking to elaborate. "Nathan was the person who defeated me," Hansel said crossing his arms. "Back then he was known as the Golden Knight and is the most person I've ever come across."

"Is it the same Nathan I know?" Jamie asked.

"It is," Hansel said. "He wants to marry me," he said, looking away.

"Did you know this in your past life?" Jamie asked.

"I would have killed myself faster if I knew," Hansel said blankly. "The only reason why we haven't moved across the world is because we still have family here and I'm under a familiar contract," he said blankly. "He's basically my master."

They were both quiet for a while, their expressions changing as they were communicating silently. "Seriously?!" Jamie's expression said.

"Seriously," Hansel confirmed with a slight nod.

Jamie thought for a while and his face changed from understanding to having a cracked smile on his face and all of a sudden he began giggling manaically. His mind wandered far and Hansel, knowing his younger brother, immediately stopped him. "Alright stop it," he said embarrassed.

"What?" Jamie asked innocently.

"You know what you're thinking," Hansel said accusedly. "And stop looking at me so innocently," he said.

Jamie raised his hand in surrender. "I just hope not to be home when the back door is being knocked open," he said.

Hansel blushed in embarrassment. "That's never going to happen!" he exclaimed.

"We can never be sure of that," Jamie said teasing his older brother. Normally, Hansel doesn't show a lot of expressions, especially after their parents' death, but it's nice to tease him every once in a while.

"I'm going to kick your ass one day," Hansel threatened lightly.

"So do you hate Nathan?" Jamie asked, now being serious. As much as he likes to joke, he wouldn't want to see his older brother being with someone he hates.

"Hate is such a strong emotion," Hansel replied. "No," he said.

"Okay," Jamie replied.

Hansel's face became even more serious. "Listen, Jamie," he said. "You remember the man with platinum blonde hair?" he said.

"Yeah," Jamie said. "He seemed friendly."

"Don't let his appearance fool you," Hansel said coldly. "I wouldn't something bad to happen to you," he said.

"You hate him?"

Hansel's left pupil began turning red, but he took a deep breath. "Hatred is an understatement," he said lightly.

Jamie swallowed a bit and nodded. "Right," he said.

"I don't want anything bad happening to you," Hansel said. "You're the only family I've got, alright."

"No I'm not," Jamie replied. "We still have grandma, grandpa, Aunt Mary--"

Hansel laughed. "I understand," he said lightheartedly, he then got up and rubbed Jamie's head. 'I don't know what I'd do if you too died,' he thought. "I'm going to bed," he said. "Takeout's in the fridge," he said.

"You're an old man," Jamie said.

"It's one a.m., I have a job to do, and I need to escape reality every once in a while," Hansel said then left for bed.

'That's it?' Jamie thought. 'I thought he was going to do some demonstration to display his awesome powers.'

He was disappointed throughout the night.

Hansel found himself underneath a spotlight, the only place there was light was where he was standing.

"Kale, Kale, Kale."

Hansel growled. "Don't you have a sense of privacy, Felix?" he angrily said.

He turned around to find Felix behind him. He doesn't hesitate to grab him by the throat and slam him down.

Felix smirked painfully before dissipating to smoke. "That would have crushed my esophagus," he said jokingly. "Aren't you going to ask what I want?" he said appearing behind Hansel.

"Why should I?" Hansel said drawing out a magic circle. "You're never up to anything good," he said. The magic circle fell to the ground and everywhere became white.

Felix was there, but he wasn't the only one. He was holding Jamie, who was sleeping. "Using an image of my brother against me, are we?" Hansel said, his aura was becoming dangerously dark.

"This is the real deal, your little brother's dream self," Felix said smirking. "If he dies in a dream, let's say by an accidental blast of your magic,..."

"... He dies in real life," Hansel said completing his sentence. What Felix was trying to say was if he tried to attack him, he could use Dream Jamie as a shield. 'I would be indirectly killing Jamie if I tried to attack him,' he thought, then narrowed his eyes.

His aura dissipated. "What do you want Felix?" he asked coldly.

Felix smiled. "Just to talk," he said.

"I'm listening," Hansel replied.

"The Demon King is dead," Felix said.

"Oh," Hansel said, not sounding surprised. The war between humans and demons was already being lost before he was defeated, he was meant to stand as the last line of defense, which was to be expected. "How is that meant to concern me?"

"Because you are the only heir to his throne," Felix replied.

Hansel scoffed. "He has plenty of other children," he said crossing his arms.

"True... That's why the demon race has been long divided and there's been even more chaos than the war before the war."

"This doesn't concern me," Hansel replied. He has a single responsibility and that is taking care of his family.

"Is that so?" Felix said in a weird tone.

Hansel frowned. "Felix... What did you do?"
