The deadline and new technique
Grado island is an island in the paradise that was not affiliated with the world government. It was situated not far from the Red line. But far away from any Government affiliated country or Island. So the activities of marine is non existing less in the area. On top of that the country has no natural resources attracting anyone's attention. So it became a perfect place for outlaws and pirates to grow. That's why this is also called the Hachinosu of the paradise.
After his kept from the Impel down, when Shiki decided to move to paradise, he chose this island as his base of operation for initial months when he was regathering his crew.
After he shifted his base of operation to his floating Islands, Shiki decided to continue his influence on the Grado island. Several of his lackeys and allied pirates did the job for him. It was also the island he was used to maintain his connection with the rest of the world. It was also his main supply line for various important chemicals and resources for Indigo.
That's why Shiki chose the island for Hancock to meet.
Shiki respected strength above anything else. And young Hancock was strong. That was the reason he became even more infatuated with her.
It was like Roger all over again. But this time, Shiki was clearly stronger. Not to mention he also has a hostage . So Shiki was confident in his victory.

What Shiki used is the coating of conqueror's haki in his attack.
Like armament Haki, conqueror's haki can also be coated around objects. Like weapons or body parts.
But achieving this feat is extremely difficult.
Only figures like Roger, Whitebeard, Garp, Linlin and Shiki had managed to achieve this feat in my time. Now you can say that the four emperors are capable of this feat.
If there are only one in a million person wields the power of conqueror's haki, then the number of people who can coat their conqueror's haki is one in a billion.

Usually these kind of events are life and death battles. I don't even possess conqueror's haki. So obviously I can tell you how exactly it feels.
So that's something you have to figure out yourself." While Gloriosa was going on with her explanation, Hancock has zoned out after hearing the first two sentences. Instead she was recalling her training with Rayleigh.
When Rayleigh was teaching her the internal destruction property of normal haki, he has taught her about the flow of haki in one's body.
She recalled her fight against Jinbe. Her sense of danger and pride were the catalyst for her to actually bring out her haki while managing the constant flow of her haki thus creating the advanced form of armament haki.
Previously before that she could manage to bring out her in the form of emmision. And with the help of Rayleigh, she has managed to learn to maintain the flow of her haki. But combining those to seemed impossible for her. At least until her pride kicked in and she managed to do both simultaneously.
Later she combined the property of emission along with the advanced armament haki. While surrounding herself with advanced armament acted both defensively and offensively, her new form of Haki was purely offensive. While It didn't offer much in terms of defence, it was more destructive than normal emission or internal destruction attacks.
So Hancock decided to try using her conqueror's haki in similar fashion. She wanted to test if she could pull similar type of attack using conqueror's haki.
But she didn't have time to go back to Amazon Lily to practice. Shiki had given her a deadline of two weeks.
According to Tia, it would take them almost 12 days to reach Grado island according to the sea charts.
But Hancock didn't want to take any risk. So she decided to head there as soon as possible.
As a result she has no choice but to practice on Silver pearl.
But that's not all. Knowing how hard it will be, Hancock was not completely going to reply on the possibility that she will able to learn it mid battle. But that's why she has also figured a new way to utilize her devil fruit. Her plan was to reach the island early and experiment with her new devil fruit moves.
Previously Hancock was relying on her beauty to effect people with her devil fruit power. But obviously I don't work on strong opponents like golden lion who has masterd haki to the best of his abilities. So she has thought about a sure kill move that will even effect the proficient haki users as long as they fell in love with her.
Mero mero no mi utilised the lust and attraction in a person's heart to turn them into stone statues.
That was the reason why he never managed to turn Luffy into stone. Hey simply held no lustful desires towards Hancock.
Unknown to Hancock, the new technique was going to give her a large power boost.
