Chapter 25: Audition

It was the evening and it was quiet out. The sweat was beading on my forehead and my heart was a jackhammer in my chest as I waited for Professor Bennett to speak again.

To my surprise, he seemed almost hesitant as he searched my face before finally asking his question.

“Have you decided if you’re going to audition for A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Riverstone, or not?”

I sucked in a breath. Had I made a decision?

I was embarrassed as I thought about the fact that even though I had been practicing the dances and the lines, I actually still wasn’t sure if I was going to audition or not, reasoning that I would just see how confident I felt when the day of the audition was finally upon me.

However, under Professor Bennett’s intense emerald gaze, I couldn’t bring myself to admit that. It would likely cause a little wrinkle to appear between his thick, but well-groomed eyebrows, and that would break my heart.
