Of Course, the Lovebirds Should Get Married

A mischievous smile curved on Su Yijia's lips.

"What? Now that Qin Mingcheng is no longer of use, you don't want to get married anymore? A young girl like you, why are you so preoccupied with those matters? Aren't you two in love?"

Upon hearing this, Qin Mingcheng's face darkened immediately as he cast a startled look at Su Xinyue. The brief flash of panic on Su Xinyue's face he captured was enough to shatter his already fragile self-esteem, twisting it into something resembling a sinister ghost.

"Xinyue, don't worry, I will definitely marry you! I'll take responsibility for you; don't be afraid."

Though it sounded like a sincere commitment, it carried a chilling undertone. Su Yijia nodded approvingly. She had always believed that these two lovebirds should be bound together forever.

"Fine, go ahead and get married. Tomorrow, just go and register your marriage," Qin's mother reluctantly conceded.

"No, I need to discuss this with my parents. I haven't even graduated from high school yet, and there are dowries, bridal gifts, and wedding banquets to plan. We need to settle these matters first. Mingcheng, you promised that you'd marry me in style," Su Xinyue, with teary eyes, brought up the promises they had made to each other during their romantic moments.

"Mom, we're not short on money. Don't make Xinyue unhappy," Qin Mingcheng replied, growing increasingly impatient. These pointless arguments made him feel like someone was scraping off his skin and repeatedly rubbing it on the ground.

Realizing that further disputes would only agitate him, Qin's mother had no choice but to agree. Su Xinyue, however, didn't anticipate their easy agreement, and a wave of panic washed over her.

She wanted to refuse instinctively, but Su Yijia gave her a sharp look. The once warm smile on her face had disappeared, replaced by a bone-chilling coldness. This silenced Su Xinyue, and she dared not utter a word.

Su Yijia paid no more attention to them and went into the kitchen. She poured the stewed spare rib soup into the simmering congee and continued cooking. Qin's mother attempted to enter the kitchen, but Su Yijia firmly pushed her out.

"Get away! This is specially prepared for Kaize. Do you want to snatch the nutrition meal from a patient?" Su Yijia scolded.

"This is outrageous! If we hadn't come today, we wouldn't have known that your daughter-in-law is so unruly!" A furious male voice suddenly rang out at the entrance of the courtyard.

Over twenty people rushed in, making the once spacious courtyard feel crowded. The commotion even alerted the neighbors, but the door was closed, which prevented them from satisfying their curiosity.

Gathering in small groups, they quietly gossiped about the fact that the Qin family's youngest son had married a wife. It was none of their business at the first place, so they chatted for a while and then returned to their own homes to prepare dinner.

"Su Yijia, I told you this matter wouldn't be so easily resolved." Qin's mother took two steps back, raising her chin with arrogance. Her eyes gleamed with malice and triumph, as if she could already picture Su Yijia's miserable fate.

However, Su Yijia showed no fear; instead, she wore a triumphant smile. "Do you think I haven't anticipated your move like this?"

Qin's mother panicked briefly but quickly regained her composure. "Don't try to bluff us. Hand over the items now and then go persuade Kaize to annul the marriage. I might reluctantly spare you."

"You might as well have them attack me directly," Su Yijia taunted, shrugging her shoulders.

Both Qin's father and mother had relatives present. In such a major incident, how could they not have notified members of both families?

Moment like this was exactly what she had been guarding against, and the reason why she would ask for help in advance. If they insisted on hurting her, no matter how much she suffered, these people would not leave unscathed.

"You really don't know what's good to you!" Qin's younger uncle shouted as he raised his palm high. Before he could bring it down, the closed door was kicked open with a loud bang.

"Who dares!"

A powerful, furious voice came from one of the newcomers, causing everyone to shudder. Qin's younger uncle's raised hand also froze in mid-air, but Su Yijia delivered a powerful kick to his stomach, making him cry out in pain.

As he was being helped to stand upright, he angrily prepared to retaliate. The people around him also closed in, but Su Yijia slipped away like an eel, pushing through them and reaching the newcomer's side.

"Uncle Xia, save me!"

Xia Weiguo was somewhat shocked by her actions but quickly shielded her behind him. "You guys are so bold, doing so much while I wasn't around."

His intimidating gaze swept across the people in the courtyard. Although they were all relatives of Qin, they had never spoken to someone like Xia Weiguo. They dared to act tough in front of a powerless young girl, but now, they cowered like quails.

Qin's mother hadn't expected Xia Weiguo to arrive so quickly. She was not just feeling weak in the knees; she was nearly scared out of her wits. However, she put on a brave face and forced a smile as she approached him.

"Chief Xia, why did you come here?"

"You arranged a marriage for Kaize without informing me. How could I not come? If I hadn't come, I wouldn't have seen how you've mistreated Kaize's wife!" Xia Weiguo snorted and led Su Yijia towards Qin Kaize's room.

Qin's mother clenched her teeth, tasting the metallic tang of blood in her mouth. "You brought him here?"

"Of course! Why can't Uncle Xia come? He's much better than you. He's been so good to Kaize, much better than you." Su Yijia proudly tossed her head.

Qin's mother felt her vision blur and almost fainted from anger. The people around her quickly helped her.

With the top leader of Qin Kaize's workplace present, naturally, they pushed her to the forefront to deal with the situation.

Upon seeing the electric fan and radio in the room, Qin's mother's already unpleasant expression turned even more sinister. However, Xia Weiguo seemed relatively satisfied.

"Kaize, it's my fault! I shouldn't have them to take care of you!" He held Qin Kaize's hand and tears welled up in his eyes.

Qin Kaize, on the other hand, remained indifferent, showing no emotional response. He only displayed a hint of concern when he saw Su Yijia entered the room.

Noticing it, Xia Weiguo became even more pleased with the young woman by his side. Regardless of how she had come into the picture, as long as Kaize liked her, he could rest assured.

"Uncle Xia, you don't know how unreasonable they've been. On such a hot day, they took away the electric fan and radio, hid the powdered milk and malted milk in their room, and even locked it in the cabinet. Are the cordyceps and ginseng for Kaize? I brought them here, and even if they're not his, I'll still keep it here. Kaize's body is weak now; he needs some nourishment," Su Yijia seized the opportunity to complain everything to Xia Weiguo.

Xia Weiguo hadn't expected them to be so overbearing. His gaze turned sharp and pierced Qin's father. Without waiting for an explanation, he turned his head and smiled affectionately at Su Yijia. "Those are all things I bought for Kaize; you can keep them. If there's anything else you need, just tell me. Your marriage came so suddenly; as the elder, I need to make up for the formalities."
