10. REGRET?

People surrounded him and started making assumptions about the scenario. Their voices buzzing in his head and ears. He gasped loudly for air. But, it wasn't sufficient for him. His eyes burning with tears and his chest tightening. Just what did he did? Was it so bad to protect himself? Who was he protecting himself from? What kind of dream is this?

"I saw the boy pushing her." Murmurs and whispers grew louder. His breath came out in pants.

"He is the murderer!" More gasps.

"But, what about the girl?" Questions hitting him hard. What about her? What will he do now? What will happen to her?

Horror struck into his eyes as he thought of various harmful things in the sea. Questions of 'what ifs?' Ran miles and miles into his mind. Eyes wide with horror looked at his own hands as he remembered how he pushed her? How? Why?

Why?

Why?

Why?

What if they were standing on each other's place? What if he was the one who fell? What if he was the one died? What if he let her kill him? Will that had any affect on anyone? Will she be affected by his death? If did, will his life be traded with hers?

Dread coiled violently around his throat. He felt it tightening as he tried to breath, he couldn't even gulp down a breath.

"Someone call the police." Eyes with fear scanning around for the culprit. Who sat on ground with eyes red and a buzzing mind.

"We gotta get some rope". People put assumptions one after another and at last fisherman advised.

"I don't think it will be wise to interfere in police matters. It's the case of murder, we gotta stay away from the scene." another man advised. Everyone pushed each other out of the way.

His bodyguards trying to get him in the car but he didn't budge away. He felt overwhelmed by everyone around him. It was different kind of humiliation. Maybe it wasn't humiliation l, it was something else. Regret? Why? When has he ever felt something to feel regret seeping into his bones. It was chilled and coiling around his spine like a venomous snake. He was his own enemy. No one hated him more than himself.

He heard them all with numbness overpowering him again. Bu,t this time he didn't felt happy even in numbness. He wanted to do something but he couldn't. His feet shook as he wobbled on his legs, walking over to the edge.

"I wanted her dead, I should found peace now. But, why?

Why I couldn't sense a little bit of peace in my blood cell. Why?" He questioned himself while his pale skin looked at the terrified.

Every voice turned blurred as he approached nearer to the edge. Kneeling on it, trying to see the hidden secrets of the sea.

"Come back." He whispered as spit followed by a heavy gasps.

"Has he gone crazy?" People murmured taking a step back as they heard the police siren approaching, but that also didn't made him move. He was still on the place.

Eyes wide with horror demanding to see the truth. Maybe he was too blind with reality to know the truth.

"Gentleman mind giving us a way." Said the Police man kindly to the man standing in the middle of the crowd.

"What happened here?" asked the lady officer.

"We were doing our daily tasks. When we saw that girl walking towards the edge of the wall with this boy. Something happened and he pushed her into the sea." answered the fisherman fidgeting with his jacket as cold wind blew over them.

"And only this boy was here, no one else other than the girl and boy?" asked the officer again. Eyebrows raised, observing everyone.

"Yeah, it was just these two." Again the same man answered bowing his head, taking step backs.

"It will be very kind of you all, if you all will co-operate with us and let us find the girl's body. Our team might be arriving here soon. And we need to take everyone's statement on the case. Your one word can help us to find the girl. Please co-operate with us." Demanded the lady officer in her firm and strong voice making them nod their heads.

"We need to get him up." Higher officer stated.

Two cops handcuffed him making his bodyguard move forward to have a talk.

"Please doesn't interfere in the constitutional matter. His parents knows about the arrest warrant." Officer sternly approached to them and lifted Denzel.

Wiggling in their hold, he screamed turning to look at the sea,-

"Aerwyna! Come back! You have too!"

His throat itched as he finally let the tears flow out. They made him sit inside the police car. And they drove him to the police department.

His face grew more pale by the passing time. His breathing was harsh which made him lose track of his breathing pattern.

"You wanna drink water, kiddo?" Asked the man seating in a passenger seat. Getting no reply, he sighed.

He was numb when he arrived the department. He walked along with them without any focus on his surroundings, his steps wobbly.

"Okay, I will be handling his case!" Muttered the man.

"Hey kiddo, I am Jack amd I will be handling this case. You do not need to get frightened if you did nothing. Just be co-operative. Will you?" Jack smacked his shoulder in assurance making him look up. His paled face shined under the dim light of his room.

"Here's the water." He offered him a glass, sensing that he must be terrified from the event.

His hands shook as he drank water in one go and ended up in coughing fit. Jack narrowed his eyes on his movements. Nothing was left hidden from Jack's observant gaze. But, what couldn't he understand was his feeling.

His body showed he was vulnerable, but his face never betrayed his emotions. It was as if he has practiced it for several years.

"Mhmm, be careful." Jack murmured.

Silence surrounded them, as Jack picked up some papers and began working on them giving Denzel sometime to recover.
