A Private Conversation

Anne approached me after I had gotten into the restaurant. She had a worried look on her face.

"You're late, Ivory. Are you okay?" I quickly gave her a nod, not wanting her to see the gloomy look on my face.

"Yeah, I was stuck in traffic. Just get back to work, I'll be fine." She smiled before she left to attend to a man who just walked into the restaurant.

I swiftly turned towards Mr Sebastian's office. He had actually called me yesterday to check up on me and to inform to be in his office first thing in the morning.

My heart thumped in my chest as I stood in front of his office, contemplating if I should go in or not. Taking in a deep breath, I gently knocked on the door.

"Come in". I heard Mr Sebastian's voice from the other side of the door. I breathed in again and muttered a little prayer before turning the door knob and stepping into the office.

I shut the door behind me and turned to approach his table when I halted on my steps. My heart started thumping rapidly at the sight of the man I saw sitting opposite him.

Oh, no...so this is it. I've automatically lost my job. If the CEO is here, then, I guess, he's here to fire me personally. My eyes immediately glistened with unshed tears.

"Why are you just standing there, Ivory? Come here and sit". Mr Sebastian said gesturing to the empty sit beside the CEO. I quickly let out a shaky breathe before I slowly walked towards his table.

"G...good morning, Mr Sebastian". He gave me a smile when I looked at him. I turned to the CEO and greeted him too. "Good morning, sir." He just simply nodded at me.

I sat down on the empty chair beside the CEO. I started glancing around the office awkwardly as I could feel the CEO's intent gaze on me.

"Ivory, huh?" I turned to look at the CEO, he had an expressionless look on his face. "So, you're the waitress who dared to spill coffee on my son."

I stood up and clasped my hands together and faced the floor. "Please, I'm so sorry, sir. It wasn't intentional, pardon my reckless manners. Please, don't fire me, I don't want to lose my job."

"And who said you were getting fired?" I turned to look at Mr Sebastian who had an amused expression on his face. "You're not going to lose your job, Ivory. The CEO isn't here for that." He looked at the CEO and he squinted his eyes at him and gave him a little nod.

My eyes immediately lit up when I heard what Mr Sebastian said and I let out a deep sigh. Oh, thank God, I'm so happy I won't be losing my job.

I looked between them and their brief wordless communication. I quickly looked down when the CEO turned to look at me. My heart was still beating erratically.

I don't know what it is? But he and Mr Sebastian give off the same aura, but the CEO's aura tend to be stronger. His presence in this office is so powerful and dominant.

"Sit down, Ivory." I quickly sat back on the chair when the CEO's voice boomed in my ear. "Here, take this." He handed me a card. A business card to be precise.

"Sir...I...Wha..." I couldn't even make out a single word as I glanced between him and the card.

"I would love to have a private conversation with you." My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

Why would he want to have a private conversation with me?

"I'll send someone to come pick you up from here by four. Hope the time is okay, Seb?" he asked Mr Sebastian and he replied him with a nod. "Hope that is okay with you, Ivory?" He asked while giving me a pointed look.

"Y...Yes, that's fine." I answered him and looked down at the card in my hands. "But, what is this card for?"

"Make sure you're with it when we meet," he replied and stood up. "Sebastian, I have a lunch date with Marion. I'll be leaving now." He turned to look at me. "I hope you'll cooperate with me, Ivory?" I furrowed my brows at his question and he smiled at my confused look.

"Uhhm...sir... I just want to thank you for not firing me. This really meant a lot," I said and gave him a small smile.

Without uttering another word, he looked at Mr Sebastian who nodded curtly at him before turning around to leave the office.

Immediately I heard the door closed behind him, I let out a deep breathe I didn't even know I was holding in. The sophisticated and powerful aura in the office dissipated. I turned to Mr Sebastian with a big smile on my face.

"Thank you, Mr Sebastian. Thank you so much." I beamed happily.

"It's alright, Ivory. You just have to be careful next time, alright?" I quickly nodded. "Great, you can get back to work now." I nodded again and left his office happily.

I quickly made my way to the rest room to change into my staff uniform.

"Hey, what's up?" Anne asked after I had come out of the restroom. "The CEO was here too. Did you get fir...."

I didn't wait for her to finish before I cut her off. "I'm still in my staff uniform, right? If I were fired I would've left the premises immediately. My job is still intact, Anne." I smiled at her.

"That's kinda surprising. I was so worried for you. Here, workers aren't easily spared when they do a single mistake, they get fired immediately at any slightest fault or mistake. You're really lucky," she said. "I'll see you later, I have a table to serve." She smiled at me before she left.

Thank goodness, I was really lucky.

"Ivory", I turned to look at Mr Sebastian standing close to the entrance of the restaurant. "The driver is here to pick you up. He's waiting outside."

It was already a minute past four and I had quickly gone to change, so I could go meet with the CEO.

I still have an unsettling feeling about this meet up with him. Why would he want to have a private conversation with me when he could have just told me whatever it was in Mr Sebastian's office?

I shrugged off the ill feeling and nodded at Mr Sebastian before leaving the restaurant.

"This way, ma'am." I looked at the man who directed me towards a black car with tinted glasses. He was on a black suit and he had black shades on.

"Are you the driver?" I asked him when he opened the car door for me. He nodded and gestured for me to get into the car. I looked at him again briefly before getting into the car and settled in. He shut the car door close before getting into the driver's seat and drove off.

I hope my instincts are actually wrong.
