I slumped tiredly on my bed with a heavy sigh as soon as I got home. Ava immediately came in with a glass of water and handed it to me.
I took a large gulp before handing the empty glass to her. She gently dropped the glass on my bedside table before sitting beside me.
"How'd it go? You look sooo...I don't even know the right words to use." She gestured, tucking some strands of her auburn hair behind her ear.
I huffed out annoyingly and glared at her.
"What's with the glare?" She asked, pretending to act oblivious. "You're actually keeping me in suspense here, Ivory. Please, tell me." She pouted and I rolled my eyes making her chuckle.
"I got the money and nothing," I said flatly.
"Oh, c'mon baby...that can't be all. Did you meet your supposed husband?" She asked me wiggling her eyebrows with a sly smile on her face.
"Don't be like this, Ava. Okay, fine. I did meet my supposed husband but he had to be an arrogant asshole. I can't believe I'll have to spend a year with someone as arrogant and annoying as him. The good part is that we are ten million dollars rich," I said, smiling at her.
"Thank you so much, Ivory. I'll forever be grateful to you for this." She pulled me into a bone cracking hug.
"I'll send you half of the money now," I said after I've disengaged from the hug.
"My bestie is getting married." She said in a singsong tone. "Your supposed husband is a billionaire. Is he popular?" I rolled my eyes at her question.
"Maybe." I replied and she gasped.
"Tell me, tell me! Who is he?" She asked, squeaking excitedly like a four-year-old who was promised a teddy bear.
"Alexander Marco." Her eyes mirrored confusion before it widened in realisation.
"You mean the famous 'Marcos'?" She intently looked at me and I nodded, earning a loud shout from her which had me covering my ears.
"You don't mean it! Oh my God, Ivory. You don't know how lucky you are. My bestie is getting married into the most influential family in the country," she said excitedly.
"Need I remind you that it's a contract marriage, Ava."
"I don't care. Why didn't you tell me that it was the renowned son of Mr Marco, Alexander," she sighed dreamily. "He has been away from the public eye for quite a long time now."
"Shouldn't you be more concerned with having to reestablish your bakery?" I asked her, tilting my head a little to the side.
"You don't have to be such a mood spoiler. Besides, you haven't sent the money to me." She whined dramatically.
"I just did." She grabbed her phone and scrolled on it before looking up at me in shock.
"I thought we agreed on only half of the money. You didn't have to send eight million dollars." Tears flooded her eyes as she stared at me.
"Well..." I couldn't complete my sentence because she engulfed me in another bone cracking hug, this time, not letting me go.
I just sighed defeatedly and relaxed in her embrace.

ALEXANDER

I walked into my grand living room and met my mother who was sitting beside my father.
When did she get back?
She quickly stood up and made a dash at me but withheld herself and gave me a smile and nod instead.
I returned her smile and went on to sit beside Clark who acknowledged me before turning back to my father to probably continue their discussion.
"You didn't tell me you were coming back today, mum," I said, taking off my gloves.
"I came back as soon as I heard. I want to be the first person to hug you once it is confirmed," she answered with a small smile.
"Isn't he here yet?" I asked and my mum shook her head at me.
"How did it go, Alexander?" My father directed his question at me.
"It went well. She signed the contract. I think we should start with the wedding preparations." I answered briefly.
"We have a problem with Rodriguez and his men. I think you should first go public with an engagement, that would help keep him and his men at bay for the time being," my father said, adjusting his collar.
"Rodriguez is becoming a big thorn in our flesh. He'd soon meet his downfall." Clark spat bitterly.
"How long do we still have to wait for Dr. Charles?" I asked Clark as I could feel my impatience building up.
"He'll be here any moment from now."
After a few seconds, Dr. Charles walked in with his box of medical equipment in his hands.
"I'm so sorry. I'm late." He said after he had sat down on one of the single sofas in the living room. He gently brought out a vial that was filled with blood from his equipment box before turning to us.
"Her blood is actually normal, which baffled me at some point because I don't know how she wouldn't have any effect on Alexander. Medically, it is impossible but as the case may be we just have to inject her blood into his system and see if it will work." He glanced at us one after the other.
"So, you're not sure if it's going to work or not?" My mother asked gently.
"Yes, I'm not sure. It's a 50/50 kinda stuff. And, we're not going to know if we don't inject her blood into his system," he answered, bringing up the vial for us to see.
"Just get on with it. Why are we wasting time? If it works fine! If it doesn't, so be it!" I grumbled out exasperatedly.
Dr Charles sighed and glanced at my father who gave him a nod of approval. He wore his medical gloves and I mirrored him by putting mine back on. He brought out a brand new syringe and inserted it into the vial. He pulled at the head of the syringe, making it suck up the blood in the vial. He dropped the now empty vial into his box before he approached me with the syringe that was filled with blood--her blood.
He gave me a look as if seeking permission to go ahead. I gave him a curt nod, tilting my head to the side and giving him access to my neck. With that, he injected the syringe into my neck.
I sucked in a breath as I felt the pickling pain of the needle on my neck. My heart was beating a little bit faster as I began feeling hot.
I looked up to see the others looking at me expectantly. I felt the needle being withdrawn from my neck and I looked at Dr Charles as he took a step away from me.
"Well, I'd have the honour of touching you first." Clark reached out to grab my neck but I flinched away from him.
His face immediately contorted with confusion.
"Let my mother do it," I said and he nodded.
My mother stood up and slowly approached me. She smiled gently at me before slowly reaching out her hand to touch my face. I shut my eyes close expecting a reaction.
I was forced to open my eyes when my mother engulfed me in a tight hug.
Oh my God, it worked!
It worked!!
I hugged her back as I could finally feel her hands on my body.
I looked up at my father who had a proud and satisfied look on his face. He nodded at me before coming towards me and hugging me too.
They disengaged from me after some minutes. But Clark filled in their space as he hugged me tightly too.
"I'm so happy for you, buddy. Now I have the maximum opportunity to punch you wherever I want." I playfully glared at him.
"This is indeed a miracle, I'm so happy for you Alexander." I gave Dr Charles a grateful look and extended my hand towards him for a handshake which he took happily.
"I can't wait to meet the Angel who gave us this huge miracle," my mother said with tears flooding her eyes.
"I'm sure you'd love her, Genevieve," my father said as he pulled my mother to himself and gave her a kiss on the lips.
I cringed at their actions before rolling my eyes at them.
"Whatcha say, huh? We party hard!!" Clark exclaimed, wiggling his eyebrows at me.
I laughed at him, shaking my head a little.
This still feels like a dream. An illness I've had to live with all my life suddenly vanished after she walked into my life.
If she's not an Angel in a human form then tell me what else she is.
I'm never going to let her go away from my life. Whether contracted marriage or not, she's going to be mine.
