"I'm sorry...I was...uhh..where...What were you saying?" I internally smacked myself. Why am I a jumbled mess? I inhaled and exhaled deeply to calm down my erratically beating heart.
And wait...Angel? Did I hear him call me Angel? Doesn't he know my name?
"So let's cut to the chase, you know why you're here. We're getting married," he said looking intently at me, making me lower my gaze to the table.
I breathed out while fanning my face. Why is it suddenly hot in here? I clutched at the fabric of my dress nervously and pressed my lips into a thin line.
He is oozing out the same aura I felt from his father. Why do they have this aura around them? Is it like a father and son thing? And it turned out that Alexander's aura is more powerful than his fathers'. It makes you feel safe and at the same time makes you want to stay away from him.
"My eyes are up here, Angel". I slowly dragged my eyes up to look at him. His brows creased up as his handsome face formed a little frown.
"Iv...Ivory." I muttered slowly.
"What was that?" He asked, tilting his head to the side a little.
"My name is Ivory Adda...." I started to say but he cut me off.
"I know your name and I know who you are. I know all your details and I also believe you know who I am...so let's cut the whole introduction bullshit and get to business," he uttered, his tone laced with a hint of bitterness.
But I don't know who you are, jerk? It wouldn't hurt to be a little nice. I didn't want to do this in the first place.
I inwardly glared at him and nodded my head.
"Do I make you uncomfortable?" I quickly shook my head at his question. "You have a mouth miss Addams. Use it," he ordered sternly.
"N..no" I mumbled out, not caring if he heard it or not.
I just want to leave this room that is beginning to suffocate me.
"I never wanted to do this, at least not with someone like you because you're actually way below my class but I'm in a situation where marrying you is necessary." He blinked once and leaned into his chair.
Below his class? What an arrogant jerk!
"Well, I'm sorry if I'm not in your class but just so you know, I never wanted to do this with you either. If not that I'm in a situation where getting married to you is a solution then I don't think I'd have anything to do with an arrogant human being like you. I'm only here because I urgently need the money your father offered, otherwise I wouldn't even care if you existed!" I huffed out in annoyance.
I looked at him to see his expressionless face. We stared stoically at each other for five seconds before he knocked twice on the table. The door opened and the grumpy driver who had brought me here came in holding a brown file in his hands. He walked straight to Alexander and dropped it in front of him before leaving the room.
"This is a copy of the marriage contract, I'd like you to go through it," he said and slid it towards me with ease. I took the file, glancing at it warily.
I tore it open and brought out the white paper in it, squinting my eyes a little so I could see what was written on it but couldn't see or understand anything written on it.
I simply brought out the pen that was attached to the file, scanning my eyes through the paper, searching for where my signature is needed.
I just need to sign this contract, get the money and leave here. The rest of the marriage stuff can come later.
"The things written down there are the things that you will and won't do during this one year of marriage and you're not to back out of this contract once you sign it otherwise you'll bear the consequences, so I suggest you carefully go through it," he said while rubbing the back of his neck smoothly and that was when I noticed he was wearing black gloves.
Has that been on his hands all this while and I didn't notice it?
'Well, you've been busy ogling over his handsome face to notice,' my subconscious bit at me. I quickly shook my head to regain myself and I looked at him again.
"I don't understand whatever it is that was written here," I barked.
"Very well then. If you don't then I'll help you," he elegantly brought out his phone from his suit pocket, typed into it for a few seconds before looking up at me. "Firstly, you're not to back out of this contract once you sign it," he continued.
"Secondly, this is a loveless marriage, so you don't expect much and we both are going to live our separate lives but under no circumstances would you get involved with another man.
"Thirdly, you won't have to do all those petty jobs because you'd be getting a weekly allowance. Do you have anything to say, Miss Addams?" He asked when I frowned at his last statement.
"Why won't I have to work? I mean, I want to work. I want to earn money for myself and by myself. I don't want to be dependent on your allowance or whatever." I looked sternly at him which he returned with the same energy.
"Looks like you love living the hard life," he scoffed. "I don't want to banter with you. It is written in the contract and you must abide by it. If you don't like it, you might as well back off now." I glared at him but didn't say anything.
"I think that'd be all for now. If you wish to carry on with this contract marriage then you can go ahead and sign."
And here goes nothing. I'd have to marry and live with this arrogant asshole for a whole year.
I really want to back out. I can't help but feel that this whole marriage thing is going to be the beginning of a new chapter in my life. My instincts keep telling me that it's not going to be an easy journey.
But I have to do this for Ava, she really needs the money. She has done a lot for me and paying her back with this little sacrifice isn't that bad.
I shut my eyes and breathed in and out quietly.
I reopened my eyes, picked up the pen and hesitantly signed the paper.
Nothing actually goes for nothing.
I dropped the pen on the paper when my phone pinged and I brought it out to see an alert message. I clicked it to see the details and I saw that I've been credited with ten million dollars. My eyes widened a little but I immediately masked it.
But how did they get my account details? I quickly brushed the question aside knowing how so-powerful and influential they are, getting my account details wouldn't be a hard thing for them.
I looked up at the handsome arrogant jerk sitting opposite me. He smirked at me and it took all my willpower not to get up from here, walk to him and smack that arrogant smirk off his face.
"I believe we're done here." I slid my chair back and stood up. I took the contract paper, putting it back into the brown file and tucked the pen back into its position before sliding it towards him.
"Ahh, there's one more thing, Angel." He stood up with the file in his grip and approached me menacingly. "I still have to verify something." His grey eyes stared deeply into mine, drawing me in with the intensity in them. He slowly removed the gloves on his hands and tucked them into his pocket.
I gasped out when I felt his hand on my lower back and his other hand lifted to lightly graze my cheek. His fingers gently traced down my cheek to my jaw and down to my neck before bringing it back up to my cheek. His hand rested there for a while, his hand on my lower back tightening a little.
I saw something like relief pass through his eyes before he released me, taking two steps away from me. I gulped down nervously staring at everything in the room except him.
I heard the door opening but didn't turn to see who it was.
"Take her home, Jackson," he said to the person that came in before looking at me again and then left.
I immediately breathed out, not realising I've been holding my breath all this while.
What just happened?
