After breakfast, the two continued on their journey.
Ling Hua, having slept well, led the horse by the reins and said to Yan Qing, "Brother, you didn't sleep well. Go inside the carriage and sleep!"
Yan Qing wanted to say he slept quite well, but suddenly he remembered that he lied to her about sleepwalking to disturb his rest, and he choked back his words, nodding and climbing into the carriage.
Ling Hua drove the carriage out of the city.
As they traveled, the wind blew the carriage curtains. Turning back to secure them, Ling Hua noticed Yan Qing sitting inside the carriage reading a book instead of sleeping. She asked in confusion, "Brother, aren't you going to sleep?"
Yan Qing pretentiously lifted his eyelids in fatigue, "The road is bumpy; I can't sleep."
Ling Hua glanced at the road. This stretch hadn't been maintained, indeed making it a rough ride. She said, "Then bear with it, it'll get better after this section."
Yan Qing responded with a grunt.
