Could George Be Lying to Me

"The day before yesterday? Where?" I asked quickly, a bit unsettled.

Monica looked at my expression and countered, "What's with that reaction?"

"Where did you see him?" I pressed on, not in the mood for banter.

Just then, Monica's phone rang inopportunely. She glanced at the screen, gave me a 'shush' gesture with her finger, and leaned back in her chair to answer the call.

After uttering just a few words, she suddenly sat up straight, gave me a look, and said, "... what? ... I'll come to you right away!"

The next second, she hastily snapped her laptop shut with a 'clap', stuffed it into her bag haphazardly, and pointed outside to me, "Gotta go, let's catch up another time!"

"Hey... you... "

She didn't have time to deal with me, and just like that, she left in a rush under my stunned gaze, leaving behind an unresolved mystery.

She saw George the day before yesterday!

George was supposed to be on a business trip in B city the day before yesterday. Where did she see him? Surely it's not such a coincidence that she was also on a business trip to B city?

I retracted my neck and closed my mouth with a helpless expression, but inside I felt an inexplicable panic.

The scenes from TikTok kept replaying in my mind, but I couldn't be sure that it was George.

Could George have lied to me?

Didn't he go to B city?

Does he really have another woman?

Sitting alone in the dessert shop, adrift in my tumultuous thoughts, I felt as if I had fallen into an icy cave. Even the golden warmth of the sun couldn't stop me from shivering.

If George really had an affair, what should I do? What about our angel? What about our home?

I spent the day in a daze, as if I had lost my soul, and even forgot to pick up my child.

Fortunately, George came home early and noticed that I hadn't picked up our daughter, so he quickly comforted me and went to the kindergarten.

I forced myself to get up and start cooking.

Before George returned with our child, Fiona walked in through the door. She had a key to our home and treated it as if it were her own, which I

found quite irritating, but her brother indulged her.

Seeing me busy in the kitchen, she set down her bag, leaned against the kitchen doorway, and asked, "Why are you just starting to cook now? Where's my brother?"

I replied while washing the vegetables, "He's gone to pick up the child!"

"It's so late, and he's only just picking up the child?" Fiona's tone carried a hint of reproach.

She's always like this, spoiled and arrogant, just like the head of the Xin family. She's hot and cold towards me, her sister-in-law, but I've gotten used to her temperament over the years. After all, she's George's sister, and for the sake of love, I have no other choice.

"Do we have any squid at home? I want to eat squid rings!" she asked me bluntly.

I pointed towards the freezer, "Check for yourself. If there is any, take it out! Your brother should have bought some."

At that moment, the sound of my daughter's milk-soft voice came from the door, "Mommy, I'm back! Why did you forget to pick me up today?"

She ran to my side like a little swallow, tilting her face up and blinking her big eyes at me, asking.

I smiled guiltily, wetting my hands and pinching her little nose, "Mommy was busy and forgot, my dear. I won't forget next time, I promise!"

George came in carrying our daughter's backpack from Xiaohuo Li Novel Network, looking at us with a doting smile.

Fiona turned to look at the door and called out softly, "Bro!"

"Why are you here?"

George asked indifferently, then set down his things, took off his coat, walked into the kitchen, and hugged me as he took off my apron and tied it on himself, "Wife, let me do it! You go play with our daughter!"

Fiona eyed her brother sarcastically and said, "My brother really is a model husband! One of these days, I'll find someone just like him."

George retorted, "Go out! Don't mess around! Just wait to eat."

"I won't, I'll help you!" Fiona said coquettishly, then squeezed into the kitchen and blurted out, "I want to experience what it's like when husband and wife harmonize!"

Hearing Fiona's words, I secretly scoffed. She has no shame, saying she wants someone like her brother. Day by day, she's not focused on proper work. Any family that takes in someone like her must have sinned in a past life. It's only because her brother indulges her.

I was already annoyed, but seeing Fiona made me even more irritated. She's a grown girl but always clings to her brother. In front of him, she acts as docile as a cat, but it's just because she wants money again.

Previously, the Xin family lived in very poor conditions, with only my father-in-law working while my mother-in-law did odd jobs. Fiona was frail and sickly as a child, frequently hospitalized, making our lives very difficult. At that time, George was actually very self-conscious.

It was only after our company started doing well that the Xin family's life improved significantly. In fact, it's as if George and I are supporting the entire family.
