The moment I stepped out of the elevator, George's expression faltered, then he quickly returned to normal, exchanging a few more cordial words with the woman. He did not introduce me to this woman, just courteously escorted her to the elevator.

I couldn't help but take another look at the woman—elegant, intellectual, an air of dignity about her.

The woman also glanced at me, her mouth curving into a slight smile as the elevator doors slowly closed.

"Who was that?" I asked.

"A client!" George answered very simply, then placed his hand on my shoulder and asked, "Where have you been?"

It seemed he was not unaware of my movements; his question clearly revealed he knew I had been out.

I let out a smirk, playfully glancing at him, and said, "I won't tell you!"

Throughout the day, Sam did not return to the office.
