I remained motionless, but I felt a confusing sense of bewilderment at his behavior, which seemed to me like crocodile tears—a mere secretion.

After a while, he got up and said, "You stay and rest, I'll make something for you to eat." He avoided letting me see his face.

I had no interest in guessing his thoughts. Even his occasional show of emotions couldn't wash away the filth he represented in my heart. I couldn't stoop to his level.

I knew that the best way to protect myself was to accelerate my plans. I couldn't let him take advantage of me again.

During breakfast, he seemed back to normal, all smiles and warmth. "Baby, come eat while it's hot! Drink your milk first!"

He took care of me attentively as if nothing had happened, seemingly returning to the way things were before. His actions left me feeling disoriented.
