The Officer Visits

When I saw Dora's name flashing on my phone, my heart tightened.

"Dora, if you're calling to spew nonsense, spare me! I have no time to play games with you," I said, answering the call. "Whether you tell me about Joy or not, I will find out."

"Ha ha, Grace, looks like you're really worried," Dora's voice dripped with sarcasm, clearly enjoying my distress. "Such a temper!"

"Looks like you're bored!" I said and hung up. I knew the more I showed I cared, the more she'd enjoy it.

Sure enough, my phone rang again. I gritted my teeth and let it ring three times before picking up, "Don't test my patience!"

"Ha ha, Grace! I just wanted to tell you, he's fine! Really!" Her tone was full of mockery and schadenfreude. "But you won't be seeing him anytime soon. What a pity! I thought I'd let you know so you don't worry too much!"

With that, she hung up.

I clenched my fists. So, the games have begun. Fine! It's better than her sneaking around.
