Chapter 8 Tyler's Arrival_2

"You're very smart, you seem to disdain this method?" Mister Taylor was a sensitive man, and he was also glad that there was someone who could understand his current situation, that there was still someone who could understand him.

"Indeed, I disdain it, at least you've only now seen clearly the meaning of being a Wallfacer, yet you choose the most cowardly way of escape." Lin Sen was unreserved, and at this time, Taylor needed someone to talk to.

"So what should I do? I can't get out of this, how could you understand my agony?" Taylor's soul seemed to find a haven, and he complained helplessly to this haven of his.

"Then what was that hysterical laugh about just now?

Was it because no one understood you?

Or was it because you laughed at how incurable the world is?

Or was it because you laughed at the devil inside you, who's actually about to launch a super space Pearl Harbor?" Lin Sen's words were still delivered casually.

"What do you know? You understand nothing!" Taylor got angry and grabbed Lin Sen by the collar, his last shred of dignity ripped away.

Lin Sen did not argue back but just smiled, not a smile for a Wallfacer, but a naked mockery.

"What are you laughing at, am I that funny?" Taylor roared.

Usually, Taylor was very good at controlling his emotions, but now he couldn't help it, he needed to vent. Unconsciously, his suicidal thoughts had dissipated quite a bit; now he just wanted to beat up this guy.

"Yes... you are funny, you indeed deserve to be laughed at. Your plan is crude, and you can't endure the slightest setback and are prepared to commit suicide."

"Damn it, you know nothing, what right do you have to mock me?"

"Shouldn't I mock? You haven't even seen through the essence of a Wallfacer, yet you think you can escape the fate of a Wallfacer by dying, isn't that laughable?"

"Enough... If death can't free me, what other choice is there?"

If a person intent on dying starts to debate the topic of death, it indicates that his resolve to die has been worn down. This is the first step in saving Taylor.

"I don't know how to escape the fate of a Wallfacer, but death is certainly not the way. Don't you think all of this is part of the PDC's plan?"

"What do you mean? What does this have to do with PDC?"

"Do you think PDC cares about your life or death..."

Next, Lin Sen explained to Taylor the overt conspiracy of the PDC. Taylor actually understood the Wallfacer Project more deeply than Logic, but he had never reflected on the PDC's Wallfacer legislation itself.

"You mean we are all part of the PDC's plan, my research on Spherical Lightning Weapons is just about preparing a weapon for them, and that's it.

Whether I break through or not is of no concern to them, what they care about is whether such a weapon is useful, and whether the Trisolarans and ETO leave any loopholes, not my Wallfacing Project? These bastards!"

"Yes, we are just insignificant bugs, the Trisolarans treat us as bugs, PDC also considers us bugs, anyone can laugh at us.

You've given so much for them, so much for humanity, even if your plan succeeds, you'll be fixed to the pillar of shame for millions of years.

You've sacrificed so much, even dealing with the devil, and all you've got from beginning to end is them not caring. It's enough that the Trisolarans don't care, but that PDC also doesn't give a damn!" Lin Sen continued to provoke.

"To hell with them! This bunch of bastards!

Their smile at the Wallfacers isn't based on strategic appreciation for Wallfacers, but because we're just bugs, fools.

This is even more ridiculous than the most ludicrous situation I had imagined!

Ha ha ha...

They don't care... they don't care!

They don't care about anything!..."

Taylor lowered his head in pain again, wanting to cry bitterly.

"Yes, no one cares about your death.

"Your death would not grant you redemption because... no one cares."

"You should understand that as a Wallfacer, you are no longer human."

"Yet you still wish to return to the human fold, a desire that is hopelessly unattainable."

"Now, there are only four of your kind. Given that, you might as well do what you wish instead of shouldering such a heavy burden."

"You have two choices. One is to wrap up your original plan and initiate a new one. At worst, let the ETO keep breaching walls, allowing humans to gather more intelligence. That's also a responsibility to humanity."

"You must go on like the emperor in 'The Emperor's New Clothes,' carrying the shame until the final battle with the Trisolarans."

"Alternatively, you secretly work for Logic. I believe in his plan, I think he is humanity's hope!"

"Logic began his Wallfacing work earlier than you, or anyone, imagined. You should know why Logic was chosen to be a Wallfacer. Wallfacers shouldn't trust anyone, but Logic is worthy of your trust," Lin Sen tempted.

Tyler had just escaped from the curse of life and death, feeling unsettled, especially by the phrase "dead won't grant oneself redemption," leading him to despair. Perhaps casting off the shackles of humanity was indeed the Wallfacer's choice.

In Tyler's mind, with his current state, it was unlikely he could start other plans. He was just a failure chosen by the PDC.

Why not take a chance, trust Logic? Logic's assassination attempt was the best proof.

From now on, he would work secretly for Logic!

If he did this, was he secretly allying with Logic? He hoped his choice was not wrong.

"Good! Those bastards don't deserve my efforts.

Logic's plan is my plan now! This is the Wallfacer's pledge!" Tyler turned to Logic and said.

"Mister Taylor, you don't have to do this; actually, I don't have a plan right now!

I don't have a clue at this moment," Logic shook his head and refused.

"You're a natural-born Wallfacer, you must be a threat to the Trisolarans. I'm convinced of that.

So, I'm willing to commit my resources to ensure your plan in secrecy. Whatever you say is part of my plan," Tyler seemed to have found a new hope for life, or perhaps a kindred spirit.

"You won't regret your choice today!" Lin Sen said.

Secretly giving resources to Logic didn't really matter. The PDC wasn't stupid; they would surely notice, so long as the relationship was maintained.

If Sophon disclosed it, even less problematic, as Sophon and the subsequent ETO breaches would be completely lost in a maze of thought. Perhaps the Wallfacers would now relish the breaches.

"We are comrades now!" Tyler declared.

Watching Logic and Lin Sen, the three of them burst into laughter, a bitter laughter that lasted a long while, then gradually ceased.

This was Tyler's most exhilarating day in a while, feeling so liberated from the fetters of responsibility!

"This place is truly a paradise; may I take a walk by the lake alone?"

Tyler's psychological state had completely transformed, and he likely wouldn't contemplate suicide again. A walk by himself now might be contemplation for his next moves. Logic and Lin Sen naturally gave him the space to think for himself.

"You can do whatever you like here, relax a bit. I'll call you for dinner in a while," Logic instructed.

Tyler expressed his desire to live in this place in the future, and there was a lodge about two kilometers away from Logic's main building, which was an ideal place for Tyler. Who wouldn't enjoy this moment of peaceful comfort?

Logic and Lin Sen returned to the manor, sat face to face, with Logic still somewhat shaken by the subsequent conversation with Tyler. Logic seemed to realize that if it weren't for Lin Sen's persuasion, Tyler might have chosen to take his own life.

Lin Sen smiled and said, "Brother Luo, you need to attend the next Wallfacer hearing! You have a plan to announce!"

Logic understood what Lin Sen meant: using Logic as a proxy to publicize Lin Sen's plan. The Trisolarans knew it, and even the PDC knew, but who really cared?

Tyler got up early the next day, seeming to enjoy the beauty of this place, and after greeting Lin Sen and Logic, he left.
