12. A Boy Named Otto

"Commander Graves, sir" I called out.

"Yes Miles" he answered

"I just got a lot of information and my mind hasn't processed it all in. May I please be excused so I can lay down?" I pleaded with him.

"Sure you want me to get Lt. Jean for you?" Graves asked.

"No sir I just want to be alone" I respond.

I leave the Commander's office then I just walk, I'm still unfamiliar with this place that's for sure but truth be told I had no idea where I was going. I just wanted to keep walking.

Unconsciously I do pass along all the stops I went through with Jean but along the way I think I took a wrong turn. Because now I wasn't inside now I was outside the headquarters, there I was lost as I kept wondering and wondering.

Not paying attention to where I'm going I bumped into someone and we both fell down.

"Ouch" we both cried.

I was the first person to get up, realizing that most of this was my fault I help the person I bumped into get up, he was carrying a lot of books and I thought books were banned in this new world of ours.

"Whoa! Those are a lot of books" I said to my surprise.

"Heh, yeah I know. I'm a sucker for knowledge" the kid said.

The person I bumped into was an adult luckily, he was just a kid my age or younger than me if I'm correct.

"Sorry for bumping into you, I'm new here I kinda got lost" I said helping him pick up the books.

"It's okay cause it's my fault too, man I should have paid more attention to my surroundings" he said.

"We both at fault, let's agree on that " I insist.

"Sure" he responds with ease in mind.

"My name is Miles Jordan" I say.

"Oh right my bad, I'm Otto Benson" Otto replies.

"Nice to meet you Otto" giving him his books back.

"Likewise" he shakes my hand.

Now Otto was like any other normal teenager, he was young and smart by the way he talked and looked, he had orange curly hair, he had freckles on his face and wore glasses that made his brown-ish eyes look bigger. As for his physique he wasn't mascular or thin he was just average and a little meaty and he had one strange trait he always bought a book where he takes note about everyone and everything. His dress code he wore a a white spacesuit lookalike and wore big black boots.

"Let me show you the way" he said.

"Okay" I said.

I already had forgotten about the mysteries of my missing memory, on our walk back inside. Otto started to tell me everything about himself and every single kid we saw along the way, I know to someone else a kid like Otto would be too much but I kinda did enjoy talking to him I mean I now know who to mess with and who not too. I had my own informant if you know what I'm saying.

"Are you going to join the program too?" Otto asked.

"The program?" I asked clueless as I was.

"Yeah man, you know the program l" Otto insisted.

"What program?" I pushed back.

"Oh you don't know anything about the program? Where have you been dude?" He asked in awe.

"I was in a coma for a weak and half of my memories are a total blank page" I told him.

Surprisingly he was cool about it, I was waiting for follow up questions but he didn't do any of that.

"Okay so the program is called the Super Soldier Program (SSP) for short, it's a program that trains teens like us and gives them abilities that would help fight against the Salvation. It mainly focuses on the athletic, intelligent and compatible candidate" Otto told me.

"So when does this program begin?" I asked out of curiosity.

"About a month or so first we have to take classes and learn more about it before we take a decision to join or not" he said.

"So will you join the program too?" I asked.

"Yeah bro definitely" he answered with enthusiasm.

Finally we get to the inside as fun as it was it was time for us to go out separate ways, Otto kindly shows me the directions I have to take to get to where I wanna be.

"Thanks for everything Otto" I said.

"Nah it's cool man it's finally nice to talk to a normal person for once, don't get me wrong there are a lot of us. But a genius that I am I need my own pack you know?" He said.

"I guess so" I replied though I had no idea what to say.

"Okay bye! I hope I see you in the program in a month! Otto shouts as he storms off in a hurry.
