There were many things I enjoyed at school and the majority of them all was the popularity I gained amongst the juniors for being naturally pretty.
Whenever I walked down the lobby, I would get at least ten or more screams of "Senior!" even if a teacher was in their classroom.
Funny enough, the least I could do was smile and wave and do a quick pleading sign to the teacher in their classroom to pardon the students.
However...
All these came to an end when Kiki was beside me. Then, it would be as if I was non-existent and she would take the spotlight.
Perhaps it was due to the fact that she was the more cheerful one between us.
Today, we decided to buy snacks and just return to class to eat them.
With fairly large paper bags in our hands, we walked into the class.
"Rich women! Una dey hot o!" Ramsey Ikechukwu hailed us as we entered. He was always seated at the front seat in the first row.
Kiki and I burst into laughter.
"Where the fire?" Kiki asked amidst laughter.
Afterwards, we moved to our seat and since our seat mate was nowhere to be found, I hung my leg on the chair like it was my father's house while Kiki positioned herself on the table.
"Omo see as eggroll come small like wetin witch go use take initiate person," Kiki uttered with utmost distaste as she pulled out a snack from her paper bag.
"I tire o," I sighed.
Just then, we heard Emeka's loud voice ring throughout the classroom and our eyes went up to him.
"Deeper life show," He said, signaling at someone to come over to him.
He was referring to a smallish boy that sat at the front seat in our row. Uwale was his name - he was itsekiri.
I watched as the smallish boy stopped eating his food from the cooler stored in a fancy lunch pack, and stood up from his seat.
Uwale had a twin sister, Alero and they were the only ones out of the whole of SS2 that brought food to school in lunch boxes.
I knew a good number of people that still brought food to school but kept them in their school bags rather than having them in lunch boxes.
Many students in SS2 referred to Uwale and Alero as children since they were also quite smallish in nature.
However, Alero was a typical definition of "small but mighty", while Uwale retained his petite nature in his personality.
Today, Alero wasn't around to protect him as usual. We heard that she was down with Malaria.
"No nau. Bring that food come," Emeka scrunched his face to potray disappointment.
Uwale did not hesitate to do as he had been told.
"What is inside?" Emeka asked. His crew sta behind him, flashing funny smiles at one another.
"Rice and st-t-tew," Uwale stuttered, his hands around the cooler shaking from fear.
"Ehen...Beef, chicken or fish?" Emeka further inquired as if he was the one who told the boy to prepare the meal for him.
"Beef and fish," Uwale rushed over his words and with the way he slightly winced, I was sure he bit his tongue.
"So your daddy is a rich man? That's good," Emeka nodded. He seemed impressed.
He reached for his pocket and took out a spoon. That spoon had a legend of always being in the pocket of his school trousers.
"Emeka!"
The huge boy swiftly turned his head in my direction.
"Free am. Leave the boy alone please," I pleaded.
Kiki's own was to stare while eating the snacks she previously condemned.
"It's because of you o," Emeka tugged at his right ear. Even at that, he still took a spoon of the boy's food before sending him away.
"Una go just dey behave like small pikin for this class," He sneered after frightened Uwale.
One thing about me was that I liked to establish friendly relationships with everyone good or bad and that was the only reason why Emeka had listened to me. Otherwise, Uwale would have been left with barely ten grains of rice.
Just then, a light skinned girl walked into the class, dragging her feet against the floor in the process and stopped in front of all of us seated.
"Sir Martins said you people should submit your assignments after break," She said before moving towards a seat.
She was Amahle, the assistant class perfect of our class who had been assigned her post against her will. She only played her role whenever she was made to do so under pressure.
And yes, Amahle was a beautiful South African girl with a strong South African accent.
Not too long after she returned t her seat, another girl whose uniform failed to hide her curves walked up to the front of the class.
Vivian was her name. She was one of the few half castes in our class
"Hey everyone!" She sent us bright smiles as she flaunted her iphone 14 pro max. "Next week Sunday is my birthday and I'll be throwing an evening party!"
The class cheered her on, especially the Ashawos amongst us.
"So you all are invited!" Shr turned around and purposely jumped excitedly to capture the lustful gazes of men.
Why did Vivian always have to be like that?
I mean, she was a really nice girl. The only thing was that you could take her out of Ashawo life but you can never take the Ashawo away from her.
"Madam it's ok. Please go and sit down," Ejiro scoffed at the scene. She was one of the few people that appeared disgusted by Vivian's actions mainly because she was the flattest girl in our class. There was nothing to write home about ' front ' or ' back '.
"Is it because you have nothing to offer?" Vivian chewed aggressively on her gum this time accompanied by a clap of her hands.
In fact, she turned around and jumped again, causing the whole class to venture into an uproar of laughter.
Afterwards, she swayed her hips as she returned to her seat.
"In fact, Ejiro you are specially invited so that you can see your mates that have nyash," She hissed at Ejiro who had an upside down smile, before she sat down.
The drama in our class was never going to end for sure. It was already second term in SS2, we just had a year and some months left in secondary school.
To be honest, I knew I was going to miss all of this.
"We will go for that party o," Kiki pouted her lips at me.
"Mmm I hear you," I pouted my lips as well.
