Reality without him

I thought getting back to school and accepting the fact that Miles was a dream that ended on the note of a nightmare would help me continue life with a more positive outlook to things.

But I was wrong.

The thought of those pair of pearly eyes raided my thoughts and lived in my head rent free.

Dreams were meant to fade from a person's memories after some time or they were meant to not seem important to a person after a while but Miles had left a mark on me that I had no idea on how to erase it.

Just like in my dream, I took excuses just so I could trek and maybe walk into him somehow but I failed everytime.

The truth was staring at me in the face that Mr. Sassy rude cold-blooded blue eyes was not in my reality.

He was a mere fiction from my subconsciousness - whatever that meant.

If Miles had been real to me, there were lot of questions I would have asked him after I got out of my coma.

Why?

Why did he push me onto the road? Why was he so happy and unremorseful of his actions? Why did he ever show up and act so nice only to pull me closer to him every minute we spent together?

Just when I was starting to get so attached to him, he broke my trust.

Just when I was ready to be happy with him, he said, "Farewell."

Just why?

"I think we've come a long way now, Tobi," I halted and my breathing heaved from the thoughts that choked me.

The tall boy stopped walking as well and turned to face me.

"What's wrong?" He asked, concerned.

I guess my breathing had become loud enough for him to hear.

"It's nothing. I just feel a little tired," I shut my eyes and took a few breaths in and out.

"I should walk you back to class," He was about to reach for my hand but I held it to myself.

"You don't worry about me. I'll be fine," I assured him and scurried back to class.

I was still engrossed in thoughts about Miles and at the same time, I didn't want Kiki and Tobi to see Tobi and I holding hands.

*.*.*.

~ KIKI'S POV ~

Since Tilda claimed she didn't have the appetite to eat anything for lunch, I didn't want to force her so I went out to the cafeteria alone. Besides, she had been acting that way throughout the week.

Without wasting much time there, I ordered a few pastries and small chops with a bottle of fearless drink. After which, I started heading back to class.

Most the time, I only ate at the cafeteria whenever Tilda was with me and today, I wanted to quickly head back to class so that I would be there to take care of her whenever she needed someone.

As I hurried through the lobby, I bumped face first into someone's chest - someone who seemed to be in a hurry just like me. As a result, the paper bag I was holding which contained my lunch fell to the ground.

I looked up in anger to see the so-called quiet and mysterious Aaron of our class.

"Are you blind or something?!" I scowled at him. "Can't you see where you're going?"

"Sorry," He deadpanned and walked past me.

My mouth flew open in disbelief as I used my eyes to follow his movement to where he stopped to meet his popular girlfriend from SS3B, Annabelle.

"Sorry," - That was what I wanted to hear, right? But not as rude as it sounded.

I hissed and moved to pick up my things from the floor.

"Where have you been?" I heard Annabelle's loud voice from behind.

So because of his arrogant girlfriend, he dared to run over my stuff. I still wondered how someone quiet like him could date someone as loud as Anna.

Opposites attract, they say but, this kind of distance in their attitudes was definitely not the kind of "opposite" meant in that saying.

"Stupid, stupid, stupid! Stupid people everywhere," I said loud and clear, sure they must have heard me.

Immediately after, I continued ahead while struggling to hold up the torn side of my paper bag.

Again, I bumped into another chest. Great!

"Are all of you just ma...' I stopped midway my sentence when I learnt it was Tobi.

"Hey," My mood brightened on seeing his handsome face.

C'mon! I mean, what was there not to like about this guy?

Tall, handsome, dark-skinned, smart, intelligent, physically fit, loving, caring, generous...

"Hi. What's up?" He asked. "You seem to be in a hurry."

"Um..." My eyes fell on my paper bag that developed another tear. "Yeah...I was just trying to get this to class and be with Tilda."

"Ah I see..." He nodded. "Let me help with that then, since your going to Tilda."

"Thank you," I smiled as he took the paper bag from me even though I pretended to protest for a second.

Was this another sign that he cared for me this much?

"No problem," He returned my smile.

As we walked to class, I was probed to start up a conversation.

"I can't believe we're in our final year now and before we all know it, we'll be making our separate ways in life," I began.

"I know, right? But I'll keep in touch. We will still get the chance to walk and talk like this someday," Tobi shrugged.

His words instantly gave me butterflies. In fact, I could hear them translating the hidden meaning behind his words as; "You are my African queen. The girl of my dreams."

What could be more correct than that interpretation?

Sadly, our fun walk was shortlived and soon, we were in class. There, Tilda rested her head on our desk. There were some other students in class too - some eating and talking while others were just talking.

"Tilda," I called out to her as I moved to sit beside her while Tobi returned to his seat after handing me my stuff.

"You're back," She rose her head, looking like someone who wasn't given enough to enjoy her sleep.

"Mm," I nodded and started taking out my snacks. "You want some?"

"Only two sha," She yawned and took the ones she wanted herself.

"Shey you dey form Apostle Mrs. Fasting just now," I playfully eyed her.

"Abeg let me hear word," She laughed and stuffed her mouth.

"You know," I used my palm to support my chin as I chewed.

"I think he likes me."

"Who?" Tilda turned wide-eyed.

"Tobi, of course," I do in relief.

For some reason, she went silent for a moment.

"Why did you think so?" She finally asked.

"He's been saying it to me with style. You know that kind level nau?"

She went silent again.

"Oh I understand. If he likes you, he'll tell you sooner or later," She smiled.

"Soon. I am sure but I'm prepared to make a move before then since we have many events coming up this session," I dived into a handful of excited demonstrations.

"I wish you luck, Kiki and I hope you find happiness with that one person who loves you back," Tilda patted my shoulder.

There was a speck in her eyes I couldn't quite place a finger to what it was but for all I cared, she was in full support of Tobi and I.
