"Do you think we should wear outfits of the same style?" Kiki pouted at me, her face covered in a greenish skincare lotion just like mine.
"I don't know yet but we should look like the princesses we are," I threw playful punches at her shoulder.
"Baddies, you mean," She smirked.
"Of course."
"Let me see the dresses you bought. I'll choose something nice for you and you'll choose for me from my dresses as well," Kiki suggested and took my bag from her cupboard then placed it on the bed.
There were seven different dresses in my bag and after placing them on the bed, she was finding a hard time to choose one.
"They're all just too beautiful! I don't even know what to pick," She squealed in frustration.
Just then, the door of the room went open and Joyce's head peeped in from outside.
"Hi girls," She smiled and slowly entered the room before shutting the door behind her.
"Grandma," Kiki whined. "You know the number one rule! No old people allowed!"
Joyce eyed her granddaughter. "See this one o. Do I look old to you?"
On my part, I could only laugh at the dramatic scene that unfolded between Grandmother and Granddaughter.
At the end of the day, Joyce joined us in selecting nice dresses for the after-election party and she helped us a lot.
Kiki got with a beautiful ankle-length body-hugging purple dress that greatly complimented her brown skin while I settled for a knee-length flared blue dress that had stylish corsets run down my back.
"You two will be the queens at that party tomorrow!" Joyce exclaimed when we tested out the dresses.
Soon after, she left us alone to have our girls night.
After washing our faces, Kiki and i lay side by side on her bed, facing the ceiling.
"Even if no one finds me attractive tomorrow, I don't care," Kiki began. I could hear the sincerity in her voice. "But if only Tobi does, that will be more than enough for me."
I swallowed hard. Truthfully, I felt so bad for her.
"Just be happy, Kiki," was all I could say.
She then turned to face me, using one hand to support her head against the bed.
"There's something I noticed," She said.
"About what?" My eyes roll in her direction.
"You and that new boy, Miles."
"What's that? We don't even talk that much so what is there to even notice?" Maybe I was starting to sound a bit suspicious with the way I rushed my words.
"You always act so nervous around him and all that..." Her words trailed off to be replaced by a mischievous look.
"Don't tell me you like him already?" The mischievous look had come to stay.
That caused me to sit up. "Like him? No way, I don't even know him that much."
"Oh my Goodness!" Kiki placed her hands over her mouth. "My Tilda is in love with a handsome boy!"
Surprise was boldly written all over me. "I just said we don't talk or anything."
"Nuh uh," She shook her head. "Denial is acceptance."
"Abeg stop it," I hissed. "Do I look like someone that is interested in love?"
"Stone cold!" Kiki hailed me in laughter. "Don't go and die forming you don't do love."
"That's for you, madam and not for me."
"I hear you o," She didn't stop laughing. "Let me bring the cupcakes. They're ready. I baked them myself."
"Potte!" I screamed, referring to the fact that the cupcakes must have been a horrible cooking mess.
"Which one you sabi do?" She eyed me before leaving the room.
It wasn't up to three minutes before she returned with a mini tray lined with rows of cupcakes with several toppings, from vanilla to sweet sprinkles.
I took a bite out of one, savoured the taste as I chewed, titled my head from side to side, looked up at the ceiling and then back at her - The best method to determine the taste of your best friend's food, Matilda certified.
"How is it?" She asked in between mouthfuls.
"Extremely horrible," I scrunched my face in disgust and swallowed the chunk.
"Na God go punish you!" She sent me a spread of her five fingers.
"Na you God go first punish for this kind thing wey you make so," I shook my head yet went for another one.
"Let me play some music, anyways," She sprung up from the bed and turned on the mini speaker resting beside her dressing mirror.
The first song that blasted from the speaker was "Calm down" by Rema. Since Kiki was a hard core fan of the artiste, it was expected.
"Baby calm down o! Calm down o!" Kiki entertained me with her moves while screaming the lyrics in my face. "Girl this your body dey put e my heart for lockdown."
After dancing by herself for a short while, she pulled me up to join her.
Energy wrong I log off
Mowa friendly and conscious
I'm allergic to sokuso
I'm not ready for confusion
Our bodies swayed to every beat and amidst our dancing, Kiki pulled out her iphone and started recording a video for her tiktok.
"Pretty girls listen to Ayra starr," She slayed various poses for the camera. "And that's on period!"
We spent the rest of the time dancing, eating, and drinking fanta.
*.*.*.
It was exactly 4:00pm when our convoy pulled up in front of the prestigious Nexus high grand event centre.
From a sleek black car from our convoy, stepped out Tobi and Aaron dressed in black tuxedos. From another car, came out Eric, Chinedu, and Miles who had now become a member of their friend group, equally dressed in cool tuxedos.
From another, Lola, Sandra, and Temi stepped out in beautiful dresses of their choices. To be honest, today was the first time I was seeing Temi in light makeup, makeup to be precise and there was nothing in her mouth.
What God cannot do, does not exist!!!
The last car birthed me and Kiki's appearance. We had on light makeup that matches our dresses perfectly.
Photographers were there to capture the event and as me and Kiki walked up to the wide stairs that led to the grand hall, flash lights constantly struck our faces.
On getting into the hall, we witnessed the organized arrangement of chairs and round tables, which were starting to occupied by the students of our school who were all dressed in various beautiful outfits. To each round table, were four chairs.
In front of all these, was the podium covered in golden carpet.
It was just beautiful. From the interior design to the gracious looks of the students.
"It feels like a dream come true," Kiki held my arm so tight as she screamed from excitement.
"I know, right?" I equally screamed.
Many of our classmates sat together around a table like Temi, Eric, and Lola.
"Good evening students of Nexus high," Mr. Hakeem was all smiles and he looked just as good as our teachers that attended the party.
"I am so full of joy seeing that every one of us is looking so beautiful. Our newly elected prefects are in no way less as beautiful and handsome. We will all celebrate a new era of leadership through the evening. There is always enough food and drinks. Of course, we didn't fail to bring the best of afrobeat and amapiano to the dance floor. So please, enjoy, but before that, we would like to give our new prefects a chance to address us. First of all, I will call on head boy, Tobi Tayo!"
A round of applause went in honour of the handsome dark-skinned boy as he mounted the podium.
With the microphone handed over to him, he began, "I love you guys! Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity! I really appreciate."
"We love you, Tobi!!!" The girls in the audience screamed.
"Even though I already kind of expected this, I am still happy to know that you all have acknowledge my ability to lead and I say, thank you. I have nothing else to say than thank you."
After returning the mic to the principal, he returned to his seat from the podium.
I was called on next as the head girl.
"I hope that this opportunity you all have given unto me will build a long lasting relationship between us. To rule properly, I will need all of us to become one. Thank you!"
They cheered for me as well but... When it reached Kiki's turn, she got everyone's spirits up.
"Upcoming baddies and baddos! Can you make some noise?" She thundered over the mic.
Loud cheers erupted from the students in response.
"Thank you all so much," She continued. "Like I still can't believe you all have chosen me to become your social perfect. Omo! Na we go run this town!"
"Yes o!" The crowd thundered.
"In fact, certified baddies and baddos! Don't worry y'all gon' enjoy your events and activities even better than this. Trust me!"
The crowd got gingered by the ginger and even our principal and teachers laughed uncontrollably.
Afterwards, other prefects gave their own speeches but Kiki's was the only one that seemed to have left the best impression.
Soon, the party ventured into dancing. The DJ was just as he was hyped to be. He played not only the best of the bests but also captivating mixes that hot everyone moving their bodies.
Even those who couldn't dance, made attempts to nod their heads and stomp their feet to show how good of a DJ he was. It was all fun and vibes especially for we, the SS3 students.
