Let's start over

~ KIKI'S POV ~

Tilda and I stood at a side of the hall, a glass of orange juice each in our hands.

"So like this, I am now the social prefect?!" I exclaimed from excitement.

"Yes o!" Tilda laughed.

"Oshey!" I moved my body to the song that was playing in the background.

I could see Tilda tear up from laughter. I mean, I was just so happy at the party.

Just as we were busy making each other drown in constant laughter, the gentleman I craved walked up to us.

"Hey ladies," Tobi flashed his Mr. Cool guy smile.

"Hey," My voice overshadowed Tilda's as always. It wasn't always intentional. I was just that loud whenever Tobi was around.

"You ladies look so stunning tonight," He remarked.

"Aren't we always stunning?" I rolled my eyes.

"Ask him o," Tilda spoke in my favour.

"Of course nau. It's just more today," He chuckled in response.

"Is that so?" Tilda asked with a hint of mockery in her voice.

"I mean it," He smiled, his eyes moving from me to Tilda.

"Oh well, I think I should leave you two now. I have things to attend to," Tilda quickly spoke, sounding a bit nervous for some reason.

"Why don't you stay?" I pouted my lips.

"Kiki, I have things to do," She winked at me.

A smile spread out on my lips once I got the message behind her wink and I waved.

"See you then," Tobi waved as well and she left.

Then, it was just the two of us - me and him.

"So..." I twisted my lips, feeling nervous myself.

"I should go attend to stuff too," He tried excusing himself but I wasn't ready to have that.

"Why don't we walk and talk?" I proposed before he could leave.

For a moment, he appeared quite hesitant. To be honest, I was hurt when I noticed that.

Was I not beautiful enough?

"Alright," He finally agreed.

With his hands placed in the pockets of his pants, we strolled down the large hall.

"So what do you wanna talk about?" He asked.

"Tobi," I sighed. "Do you think I look bad tonight? Do I always look below beautiful?"

I wonder why I asked him that even when he had just commented on the fact that Tilda and I looked stunning.

He laughed.

"Oh my goodness, Kiki," He continued. "Who is making you feel that way?" Do you know how beautiful you are? I guess you don't."

He thought of me as beautiful? Was that a good sign?

"Oh I didn't," I bit my lower lip and fondled with the loose braids that decorated either side of my face.

"C'mon Kiki, I know you to be a brave girl. You're too pretty for this," He lightly punched my shoulder.

I smiled. "Thank you. I guess that's just what I needed."

"You're welcome," he pursed his lips.

"Well, there's just one thing I want you to know," I continued.

My heart was racing this time, like never before. I didn't think I could hold my feelings in any longer.

"Yes?" His sole focus now on me.

"It's just..." I stopped walking and so did he.

"Spill it out," his brows creased. "What's wrong?"

"I like you, Tobi," I blurted out.

A heavy silence swept in as his eyes met mine.

I didn't know what was going on in his mind but I was curious to find out.

"It's been bottled up inside of me for a long time now and I don't think I can hold on any longer," It was as if a newfound relief washed over me as I confessed my feelings for him. "This isn't a fan girl moment or anything. I have had feelings for you longer than you think."

He opened his mouth to say something when his phone rang out from his pocket. He pulled it out and looked at the caller ID before returning his gaze to me.

"I'm sorry, Kiki but I like someone else," he deadpanned. "Excuse me, I have to take this call."

With that, he left.

He left me to face the bitter truth he just fed me with.

My vision suddenly turned blurry and I could feel throat turn sore.

Don't blink, Kiki.

Don't blink.

But guess what?

I blinked, and tears rolled down my cheeks. I didn't know how to start accepting the truth for what it was nor did I know what to say.

My heels took for the restroom as more tears flew from my eyes.

~ TILDA'S POV ~

I had made my way up the stairs that was situated at corner of the hall which led to its terrace.

The terrace was void of people and that instantly gave me peace. It was quite peaceful up there and the gentle breeze caressed my skin.

It was all a moment I enjoyed though I could still hear the faint booming of the music playing downstairs. I was still enjoying my alone time when I heard footsteps that caused my head to turn in its direction.

It was him. He was walking towards me, looking extremely handsome in that tuxedo and his curls were styled straight backwards with transparent gel.

"I found you," he said once he stopped in front of me.

I was speechless for that moment and all I found myself doing was stare into those captivating eyes.

~ MILES' POV ~

Moving from side to side, I searched for her yet, I couldn't find her.

"But she was here like some minutes back," I muttered to myself as my eyes skimmed through the people dancing.

Then, I saw Tobi. He seemed like he was in a hurry.

"Bro how far," I called his attention.

"I dey o," Our palms jammed for a manly kind of greeting.

"Where are you rushing to?" I asked, a little concerned. Perhaps he was rushing to meet her.

"I have some guests outside," He quickly replied. "They'll be here soon."

"Ok. You know where Tilda is?"

"She went to the terrace, I think. Why?" He seemes less in a hurry after hearing her name.

"It's nothing. A teacher sent me to call her," I lied.

"Oh alright then. Catch you later, bro," We shook hands again.

After which, he left and I headed straight for the stairs that led to the terrace.

And I found her there, just like Tobi had said.

She stood at a far end, gazing into the night with a peaceful look on her face.

I started walking towards her.

Her head turned in my direction on hearing the constant clicking of my classical suede shoes.

"I found you," I said once I stopped in front of her.

Somehow, all she she could do was stare.

"Hello?" I tilted my head to the side and that was when she must have returned to reality.

"Um hi. Is anything the problem?" She quickly asked as though the words hurt her tongue.

"I was looking for you," was all I said.

"Oh so I'm here," her lips nervously twitched.

"Before I say anything more, I'd like to do some appreciation," I said and with the way she blinked her eyes, I could tell she didn't understand what I meant.

"You look beautiful," I looked her straight in the eyes that quickly looked elsewhere from embarrassment.

"Thank you," her response only came out as a whisper.

"So," I continued. "I actually came to apologize."

"For what?" Her eyes returned to my face.

"For making you feel weird all the time and also for acting like some sort of bully," I shrugged.

"Oh no. It's nothing of that sort," she frantically waved and shook her head.

"Let's start over," I firmly spoke.

She stared at me silently.

"I'm Miles Wesley," I huffed a load of air.

"Matilda. Matilda Olusegun," she broke out in a smile.

This was just all I needed to find out the truth.
