The air grew heavier the moment we stepped into the throne room. The Night Emperor's skeletal form towered over us, his black crown gleaming like polished obsidian.
I could feel the weight of his gaze—empty sockets filled with eerie violet fire. This was nothing like the skeleton warriors we faced earlier. This thing… it was ancient, and it wanted us dead.
Jian tightened her grip on her spear. I could see the tension in her jaw. "I'll go left. You draw its attention."
I nodded, raising the Demon Devourer of Swords. The blade trembled in my hand, as if it craved the battle ahead.
The system flashed a new notification:
"Boss Battle Initiated: Night Emperor (Level 15)."
Level fifteen?! I was barely level six. This was suicide—but if we won, the rewards would be worth it.
The Night Emperor's voice echoed through the chamber, low and chilling.
"Fools who dare disturb my slumber… pay with your souls."
Before I could react, he swung his massive sword. The air cracked as the blade descended toward me.
I rolled to the side just as the strike shattered the stone floor where I had stood. Dust and debris exploded around me. If that had hit me, I'd be dead.
"Blood Axe!" I shouted, activating the skill I inherited from Graceful Axe.
A crimson energy wrapped around my sword as I lunged at the boss. My blade cut through the air—but the Night Emperor blocked it effortlessly with his black sword.
The impact sent a shockwave through my arms.
Too strong.
"Keep him busy!" Jian called from across the room. She was already circling behind him, her spear glowing faintly with golden light.
I tightened my grip. "Fine—let's do this."
