Chapter 8: This is just the beginning

"Having fun on your little ice cream date?"

It was the same voice haunting her again, and suddenly it felt as though all the other voices and noises around her ceased to exist.

Alexandra looked up and their eyes met.

It was her husband.

Standing beside him was none other than Hannah. She had her arm wrapped around his with a smug look plastered on her face. Hannah was looking down right at Alexandra before pulling Ethan closer to her, the side of her body was practically glued to his at this point. "See babe, I told you she was with another man."

"What's your deal?" Alexandra asked, annoyed as she placed the spoon down on the table with a soft thud, leaning back into her chair with a raise of an eyebrow.

"Is that why you were in such a hurry to leave earlier? To hang out with your new boy toy?" Ethan continued to mock, while Hannah laughed along. "Don't you forget that I am still your husband, you are still married to me."

Alexandra only stared back at him as she tried to find the words to say but Caleb beat her to it.

"The last I heard, you couldn't keep that 3 inches of yours in your pants," He taunted with a smirk etched onto his face. Caleb who once had his back facing away from them had now turned around to look Ethan in his eyes before completing his sentence. "So no, you are not her husband."

"I'm talking to my wife here, when did I say you can speak?"

Alexandra scoffed in response. "Go away, leave us alone."

"I'm not going anywhere," Ethan reiterated, ignoring her pleas as he refused to budge.

"Did you not hear her? She asked you to leave her alone." Caleb's voice grew louder this time, though still calm. He abruptly stood up from his seat, his dark eyes burning daggers right through them, his glare deadly almost.

Alexandra had never seen him this angry before. She saw the way Ethan gulped audibly and stumbled a few steps back involuntarily, obviously intimidated as Caleb was significantly taller and bigger than he was, towering over him.

"Who the fuck do you think you are?" Ethan retorted with his chin raised as he looked him right in the eyes, putting up a brave front, but unfortunately for him, his shaky voice betrayed him.

"Don't make me repeat it twice," Caleb simply warned as he took another step forward closer to them, forcing the couple to step back.

The tension was thick between them, anyone in that place could feel it as they continued to glare at one another while Alexandra who was still seated, observed the way Hannah tugged on Ethan's arm repeatedly, urging him to leave.

"Fine, count yourself lucky that I'm letting it slide this time," Ethan spat.

Everything else happened so quickly.

Caleb noticed from the corner of his eyes, the way Hannah's arm was stretching out towards the glass full of milkshake.

Her fingers barely touched the glass when his fast reflexes allowed him to quickly grab the cup of milkshake that was already in Hannah's hand, effortlessly snatching it out of her hand in a split second. Just as she was caught off guard, without any hesitation, Caleb took the drink still in his hand and threw the cold icy liquid onto Hannah's face.

A loud high-pitched scream erupted and by this time, anyone who was not already staring at them was now doing so. All eyes were now fixated on them.

"What the fuck did you just do!" Only her shrill voice filled the place as everyone else in the same place went silent, some simply just observing while others were laughing at her.

Alexandra stifled a laugh all while Caleb watched with a straight face as Hannah desperately tried to wipe off the milkshake that was now dripping down from her long dark hair and face, and falling onto her new white shirt.

"Motherfucker," Ethan cussed loudly as he turned around upon hearing the commotion. After realising what had just happened, he stormed towards Caleb, his footsteps loud and clear. He had raised his fist high in the air before swinging down, only to be caught by Caleb's hand.

With Ethan's fist still trapped in his hand, Caleb pushed him to the ground without much effort, and he landed with a thump. Now all eyes were on him.

With his face still red from anger and embarrassment, Ethan quickly stood up from the dirty floor. He cleared his throat and straightened his shirt. "You will be hearing from my lawyers," he threatened, pointing his finger accusingly at the both of them while they continued to remain unfazed.

Caleb's laughter resounded. "It was an accident," he simply responded with a casual shrug.

It didn't take long before the sound of her phone ringing in her pocket reached her ears, just as they stepped out of the café. She answered in a hurry, without even looking at who was calling.

As soon as she answered that call, she was being berated from the other end, calling her some of the nastiest names she had ever heard.

It was Kathy, her mother-in-law.

"We are going to make you pay for what you did to our son," Kathy threatened but Alexandra only laughed in response which only made her blood boil.

"I guess someone went complaining to mummy," Alexandra taunted, she wasn't afraid of mocking him this time. It felt great that for once, she didn't have to watch her words around her, she wasn't walking on eggshells anymore.

"Just you wait and see. How dare you cheat on my son with another man?" She questioned and was immediately met with a laughter from Alexandra.

"Me? Cheat? Was that what he told you? I was the one who caught him in bed with another woman that night!" She retorted.

"What?" Kathy's voice went soft, barely audible but Alexandra could still hear the hint of shock and surprise that laced her voice. "What do you mean?"

"Yeah, I bet your precious son left out that one very important fact."

"That's…" Kathy was speechless at the moment, in disbelief that her son would do something like this, especially after knowing that his own father had an affair with another woman too, ruining their marriage of over 20 years. At that moment, she felt apologetic and empathetic towards Alexandra, knowing they were in the same boat.

"I'm sorry about that. Don't you worry, I will teach him a lesson," Kathy apologised immediately.

Alexandra was surprised by the sudden apology, but replied quickly. "There's no need to."

"What? Are you sure? Why?"

Because she was going to teach him a lesson herself.

And she did teach him a lesson that very night with the help of her best friend Kelly.

Everything was great until she looked down at her phone to see her mum calling her.

Alexandra frowned. She never had the best relationship with her mother, and she knew that as usual, the call she just received would be filled with nothing but spiteful and venomous words. She had long given up on her relationship with this woman since that day, but to prevent her mum from calling her phone repeatedly, Alexandra still chose to pick up the call.

"What do you want?" Alexandra answered curtly.
