"Alexandra…" Her name rolled off his tongue effortlessly as though it had always belonged there, the deep baritone of his voice causing her heart to skip a beat.

Silence enveloped them in an instant as the air between them crackled with unspoken tension. The flood of memories engulfed them at that moment. How long had it been since they had last seen one another?

Effortlessly, he reached for her back and under her knees, carrying her bridal-style before heading back to the car. 

"Is there anything I can help with? As thanks for… not running me over and providing me shelter?"

"Actually, there is," Caleb said. 

Alexandra turned, raising an eyebrow. She hadn't expected him to so shamelessly take her up on her offer when they both knew it was just to be polite.

"This probably ain't the best time but… Do you want to get married?"

"Caleb, did you really let her talk to your friends with that tone?"

This time, another woman spoke up, her voice breaking the silence that once settled among them. She had this tiny frown that was etched onto her face, and anger silently brewed within her as she glanced at the empty seat beside her. After all, Alexandra just embarrassed the woman's friend in front of everyone else, she couldn't simply sit still and do nothing.

Before Alexandra could open her mouth to say something, Caleb interrupted her with a scoff. "Didn't she use the same tone on my girlfriend too?" He retorted, his face appearing calm as he maintained his composure while the woman, on the other hand, looked flustered, stammering as she struggled to find the right words.
