Short Summer.

I meet her at the start of the summer.

At first contact, I thought her beauty was a stunner.

Made my heart pop off rapid shots, like a gunner.

Never would have thought that she would turn into a runner.

I never imagined that my would would be torn asunder.

I reflect now and wonder

When I made my fatal blunder...

I thought maybe she was the one

 Not just to have fun

I'd try to give her my son

 And daughter, plus one.

It was a new direction

 One that I'd never taken.

And the way her brown eyes caught me staring

 Had your boy shaken!

My mind was screaming:

 "Hell yeah!"

My heart saying:

 you're fakin'

But it knew that in the long run

It didn't want to be breakin'

We were so young

 Barely 21 years old.

And I was captivated

Never knew that she would be so cold.

Nearly decapitated

Never thought that she would strike so bold.

Thought I had imagined it

Blocked out all the words that friends had told.

But

You were

 You were

 You were

You were my whole season...

Never doubted what she said to me

 Never had a reason...

And what she said

 She said.

I heard it all a thousand times.

Love bombing the crumbled rubble

 Reshaping what was my mind...

I had my eyes

 Closed and ears plugged

To justify

 Her crimes.

And now she nothing but a memory
