Chapter 38: Recovery

Lucy felt much better after a warm shower and some blood. She let herself rest completely in Celeste’s arms. The silk sheets were soothing and Lucy tried to focus on the lavender vanilla smell of the incense in the room. She had a hard time explaining to Celeste everything that had happened since she couldn’t stop crying. Lucy felt certain that their deaths were imminent. Celeste, however, felt more certain of the opposite.

Lucy let herself fall in and out of sleep. Sometimes Celeste would be there, sometimes she was elsewhere in the apartment or gone all together. Lucy could hardly get herself up to question where Celeste had gone.
