Chapter 42: Celeste's Test

“A what? Aren’t those like a totally different type of creature? Don’t they, like, only call out when death is going to happen?” Lucy shouted. Celeste was already shaking her head.

“Humans have misconstrued our kind and our powers for centuries. Sure, you don’t have to be a vampire to be a banshee. But then, as you stated, your gifts are not as developed. You can only see death in its immediate moment. But you, my dear, ARE a vampire. That has allowed you a different amount of clarity.”

“I’m so confused,” Lucy grumbled.

Veronika and Noah sat down on the floor, looking at Lucy with awe.

“This is so fascinating and it totally makes sense!” Noah explained. Lucy shot him a look and Veronika elbowed him lightly. “I’m sorry, it’s just, banshees are really rare and hard to find.”

“But your deaths,” she started to say, looking at Noah and Veronika, “are still so close.”

Celeste smiled while Lucy’s other friends frowned.
