A gentle breeze swept across the open space, tousling his strawberry blonde hair and caressing his ivory skin. The wind carried with it a hint of freshness, offering a welcome respite from the stuffy memories of his past.
When his father disowned him, his mother had done nothing but silently watch. His older brother, an omega, turned a blind eye to everything. None of them tried to talk their father out of it. Hao Yu didn't want to go back to such a home. A home where they loved you if you were useful but tossed you out the second you became a liability. Was that even a home?
Hao Yu walked towards the edge of the rooftop, his footsteps measured and deliberate. As he reached the boundary, he gazed out over the now nearly deserted field below. The once bustling grounds were now quiet, with only a few straggling students lingering behind.
He sighed. Some part of him wanted to see his parents and his brother. Despite everything that had happened in his last life, they were still family and he would be lying if he said his heart held nothing but contempt for them. Nevertheless, he felt it was better this way. A part of him knew that he wouldn’t be able to leave the world if he saw his family.
Standing there, with the vast expanse of the empty field stretching out before him and he felt a sense of freedom wash over him. The open sky above and the expansive landscape below seemed to beckon to him, offering a fleeting escape from the constraints of the world below. For a moment, he felt weightless, as if he could spread his arms and soar into the boundless horizon.
He recalled the image of his family, who had cast him out. Wei Long's rejection which weighed heavily on his heart, a wound that refused to heal. The faces of his once-close friends, now distant and indifferent, flashed before his eyes, a painful reminder of their abandonment.
The scornful gaze of society, the mocking whispers that followed him wherever he went, echoed in his ears like a relentless refrain. The looks of disgust or pity from strangers as he walked the streets, each glance a silent condemnation of his existence, etched themselves into his memory like scars.
That was his life. His real life. Not this fake one where he's an omega who is receiving tons of love and attention from everyone. Not this fake life where Wei Long hugged him and spoke to him like he would to a normal person.
Life was too painful and he had gone through it once. Once was more than enough.
He lifted a foot, ready to fall to the ground when a sudden sound shattered the silence, causing him to startle. The noise, a soft clearing of the throat, echoed across the rooftop, jolting him from his reverie. In his surprise, his footing faltered, and he stumbled backward, his heart racing as he landed with a thud on the solid rooftop floor.
He cursed inwardly, groaning as he lifted himself from the floor.
"Who's there?" he called out, his voice tinged caution as he scanned the rooftop for any signs of movement.
“Why do you want to do this to yourself?” he heard someone ask as a figure walked out from behind some old desks that were stacked in a corner.
Hao Yu gazed at the person he didn’t recognise, surprised. “W-Who are you?” he asked, staring at the girl dressed in their school uniform. She was quite short and petite with shoulder length purple hair and bright brown eyes.
She smiled at Hao Yu as she walked towards him, holding a rainbow coloured lollipop. “You’re really stupid you know.” She said, ignoring Hao Yu’s question. “You’ve been given a second chance at life and you want to waste it.”
Hao Yu gasped. “H-How did you know? Who are you?”
“My name is Lin Lin.” She answered, licking her lollipop. “And I’m the one who brought you here.”
“Brought me here?” Hao Yu asked, confused. “What are you saying? You mean you gave me another life?”
“Well, I didn’t actually give you another one. I just made you go back in time.” Lin Lin clarified. She then glanced at him suspiciously when he didn’t say anything. “Huh? You’re taking this quite well though. Others would have been-”
Hao Yu suddenly roared out and grabbed the object nearest to him which was a piece of wood. Seeing this, Lin Lin screamed and began to run while Hao Yu chased after her, waving the stick in the air.
“How could you do this to me!!” He shouted, trying to whack her on the head with the stick. “How could you send me back in time?! I told you! I said I didn’t want to live! Why didn’t you listen to me?!”
“Because you didn’t deserve to die! At least not like that!” Lin Lin screamed as she ran around on the rooftop, trying to dodge Hao Yu’s attacks. “I can explain everything! Just stop trying to kill me!”
“I don’t want any explanation!” Hao Yu shouted. “How could you! Fine, you sent me back in time, but why make me an omega?!! Why make my male Alpha buddies like me?!! Do you know how weird that is?! I want to be an Alpha again! Make me an Alpha!”
“But that’s impossible!!” Lin Lin screamed, dodging the stick anytime it came close to hitting her head. “Let me explain! Your former life was a mistake!”
Hao Yu paused, his eyes widening in shock as he stared at Lin Lin in disbelief. The stick fell from his hand, clattering to the ground as he took a step back.
"W-What are you saying?" he stuttered, his voice trembling with confusion. "What do you mean?"
Lin Lin bent at the waist, her chest heaving with exhaustion as she struggled to catch her breath.
"I’m sorry, Hao Yu." she said, her words gasping out between ragged breaths. "Your former life was a mistake. You were never meant to be an Alpha. We’ve corrected everything. This is your true life!"
Hao Yu's expression twisted in confusion and anger, his eyes flashing with a mixture of emotions. He took a step forward, his fists clenched at his sides, his face reddening with anger.
"That's ridiculous!" he snarled. "I know who I am. I know my family, my friends... everything. How can the life I lived be a mistake? Who are you? Why are you toying with me?
“I am not toying with you, Hao Yu.” Lin Lin insisted. “In the heavens, there’s a very important deity most people do not know about. Her name is Yi Xing. She’s the one who uses the Destiny Star to assign genders to babies before they are born. In your case, there was a….slight mistake…”
