Chapter 4: Dark Night

The guarantor's ability to guarantee her fifteen million indicates at least a comparable financial standing. In that case, does she still need to rely on "selling" to earn money to repay debts?

The furrow on Gu Han's brow remained, his tone indifferent as he said, "Continue the investigation. It's imperative that we find this individual."

Ji Chen, puzzled and unsure, queried, "Sir, are you suggesting...?"

The man remained silent, prompting Ji Chen to hesitate in his speech, ultimately advising, "Mr. Gu, this woman's background may be simple, but she is complex. I understand your reservations, but she might still be an option worth considering. I hope you'll reconsider."

In Gu Han's mind, the image of that face, sometimes wild and sometimes innocent, surfaced. He closed his eyes briefly and uttered, "She is the most suitable."

It all boils down to money, nothing could be more fitting.

Ji Chen knew his words would fall on deaf ears. After a moment of silence, he responded, "Understood."

Speaking of which, it's all because of that person at the Yushan Villa.

But it's been quite a while since that person has been lying there. Whether there will be a miracle or not remains unknown, although quite a few critical condition notices have been issued in the past six months.

One week later.

It was still a rainy night.

The black phantom dashed through the rainy night, undeterred by the heavy rain.

Gu Han was on the phone, his tone icy and ruthless, "If you can't hold on, all of you will accompany the funeral!"

His secretary sat cautiously in the passenger seat, even his breathing becoming much lighter.

Lately, Mr. Gu's temper has become increasingly unpredictable.

But as for the person at the Yushan Villa, who knows how much longer they can hold on.

Gu Han received another call.

The phantom, now at the foot of the villa area, swiftly made a U-turn after a deft flick of the steering wheel.

The female secretary stared ahead with an intense gaze. They had rushed over in a panic upon hearing that the person at the Yushan Villa was critically ill, so why were they turning back now?

...

Liang Shu had just sent out the card given by Gu Han when she was grabbed by Ji Chen before meeting her two friends.

At this moment, she vigorously tapped on the car window, attempting to get Ji Chen to release her.

However, Ji Chen, standing under the umbrella beside the car, remained unmoved, showing no reaction whatsoever.

Liang Shu knew he was waiting for Gu Han.

According to the agreement, she was supposed to stay at the Yushan Villa for ten days. As long as that woman survived this crucial period, she could leave unscathed.

But she couldn't wait, she even sprained her foot when she climbed over the wall.

Her clothes clung damply to her skin, making her very uncomfortable.

After about twenty minutes, the sound of the door unlocking made Liang Shu shiver.

Instinctively, she lowered the car window and saw the man approaching her under the dense rain.

His tall figure, inscrutable expression, and the aura of keeping others at bay seemed to instantly transport her back to that night seven days ago.

Just a moment ago, she was pondering how to respond to Gu Han.

Now, all that remained was instinctive evasion.

But Ji Chen was faster than her. He opened the car door without any pity and pulled Liang Shu out. She staggered, feeling a piercing pain in her ankle.

Tears welled up instantly.

But the downpour concealed all those tears. She lowered her head slightly, her left hand supporting herself against the car door, while her right hand quickly brushed away the wet hair on her face, offering a graceful smile to the man standing just a meter away from her.

"Mr. Gu, I didn't run away," she said, then glanced around, her smile widening, "You didn't need to send so many people to catch me, you know. What have I done to deserve it?"

The man's demeanor was too disdainful, and Liang Shu felt a slight chill in her heart as she met his gaze.
